MLB News: Indians Designate Aaron Cunningham for Assignment
July 25, 2012Box Score: Indians 3, Tigers 5
July 25, 2012The Cleveland Cavaliers have acquired point guard Jeremy Pargo, Memphis’ 2014 second round draft pick and cash considerations from the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for guard/forward D.J. Kennedy.
“Our approach remains consistent as we try to bring in young talent, create future opportunity with draft picks as potential assets and maintain flexibility,” said Cavaliers General Manager Chris Grant. “Jeremy adds depth to our backcourt. He is a young, aggressive, athletic guard who we feel fits well with our style of play, both defensively and offensively. We look forward to welcoming him to Cleveland.”
Likely serving as a back-up to reigning Rookie of the Year Kyrie Irving going forward, Pargo, 26, played in 44 games (five starts) with Memphis last season, averaging 2.9 points and 1.3 assists in 9.7 minutes per game after signing with the Grizzlies as an undrafted free agent. In the 2010-11 season, Pargo appeared in 32 games for Maccabi Electra Tel-Aviv of the Israel Premier League and averaged 10.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 6.3 assists in 27.1 minutes per game. He also appeared in 22 Euroleague games, averaging 13.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.3 assists in 29.4 minutes per game.
He also did this roughly one week ago.
Kennedy appeared in two game for the Cavs last season and averaged 6.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 29.5 minutes per game after being signed by Cleveland on April 21, 2012.

Nice move, I like it very much.
That’s how you make a trade, Indians.
Can’t help but love this move. I think Pargo can be a solid backup (with a similar style) to Irving, and cash and picks never hurt to have.
DJ Kennedy played for the Cavs?
Only one player I like less than aforementioned Kennedy, that being Luke Harangody, hope I spelt his name wrong. I love this trade! A good enough backup pg and 2nd rounder for a guy i hate.
The Indians just made a trade…that was equally as bad, when they got brent lillibridge
Ok, +10 to Scott for throwing in that You Tube vid into this post. +100 to Grant for this trade that brings us another draft pick as well as, what could be, another talented player on this team.
A second round draft choice for a guy who probably wasn’t going to even make the final roster… What’s not to like?
Man, Kekoa, tell us how you really feel…
No point in discussing this. We traded a fringe roster player for a fringe roster player and a pick that will likely become a member of the canton charge. Woo…
ok, obviously a good move because we got $$ + 2nd round pick + a guy to compete w/ Sloan for the backup PG slot (all for someone I doubt made the final-15).
now, can Pargo actually make the final roster? well, I think I’d put it at 50-50 for him to beat out Sloan. Pargo is a better passer but also likes to gamble (high TOs). He also really struggled shooting in the paint w/ the athleticism of the NBA players (leading to his low FG%). And, he has no 3pt shot (and was a poor FT shooter). all that being said, if he learned how to finish better in the paint and how to cut down on his TOs a bit, I think he has a much higher ceiling than Sloan.
That’s not exactly right… the Cavs got (arguably) a better player and a draft pick (always useful) for a guy who doesn’t look like the answer to any question. Lillibridge is arguably a worse batter than Cunningham. He can cover more ground in the outfield, but has a weaker arm. I think it’s easier to argue that the Pargo trade was successful than the Lillibridge trade.
Sort of… I’m not sure “played” is the right word. I would go with “waved a towel” or “procured Gatorade”.
You suck feartheroo
Worse then Cunningham? I disagree but Mrs. C appreciates the love for her boy!
Why was I awoken for this?
Lillibridge has 1 outfield assist in his career and it was back in 2009. Cunningham had 4 outfield assists this season alone. I know it’s not the end-all-be-all statistic but it’s certainly worth something right?
Lillibridge is an infielder he’s not an outfielder which is why I laughed when so many people including the Indians talked about him in LF. LF is a black hole doesn’t really matter anymore.
lol throw the word hate around and the dislikes come, fine guys, I love luke and his unorthodox shot.
