While We’re Waiting… Tons-o-love for Kyrie Irving, trading Sessions, and appreciating Manning
March 9, 2012Simmons: Cavs Linked to Potential Swap for Josh Smith
March 9, 2012Oklahoma State University is holding their Pro Day today and, ESPN’s Josina Anderson reports that “most” of the staff of the Cleveland Browns Staff is in attendance, including newly hired offensive coordinator Brad Childress.
While several players will be viewed in Stillwater, Oklahoma, wide receiver Justin Blackmon and quarterback Brandon Weeden will draw plenty of eyes as both players are expected to be selected early in the upcoming NFL Draft; Blackmon could be selected in the top five. The Cowboy tandem produced one of the nation’s best offenses in 2011, leading to a 12-1 ranking and a third-ranked finish in the BCS Standings.
Weeden, 28, is expected to make approximately 65 throws, many of which will likely land in the hands of the Blackmon. Both players have been linked to the Cleveland Browns in one form or another, with the team’s general manager Tom Heckert recently heaping praise on Weeden’s maturity.
Safety Markelle Martin, who grades as an early-to-mid-round prospect, could also draw some of Cleveland’s attention.

“Most of.”
Here we go again. More lines with nothing in between to read.
I could go for a Markelle Martin. Usama Young is a backup at best… so many missed tackles last year.
Are we calling Justin Blackmon “the Blackmon” now?
I am hoping the Browns draft The Blackmon at 4, and another wide-out (Jeffery?) at 22…Am I the only one?
Yes
I haven’t heard any flattering reports of Alshon Jeffrey for some time now. Just rumors of a poor work ethic and a picture of him in uniform on the internet with a bigger gut than me. I’d rather keep Jordan Norwood
We are laying down the “we love Brandon Weeden” track right now so as to convince the Rams we may not be so hot after Griffin, thus we may not be willing to bend over and ask nicely for Astroglide for the #2 pick
Is that a new roller coaster at Cedar Point?
Ditto!
some mocks I’ve seen have him falling to us in the 2nd round.
Yep.
Maybe instead of the Robert Griffin III / Kendall Wright pairing, the front office is going after The Blackmon and Old Man Weeden duo. Weeden seems to be second round material, although that is a little high for us to pick a quarterback.
Just amagine Little at number 1 slot Blackmon at number 2 and Cribbs that will improve this offense a lot then get a right tackle a running back then the browns will be a lot better it is great to be a fan of Cleveland sports teams win or lose bad or worst in any sport we are still there we are Cleveland the city with the best sports fan ever
Yeahmon
Three words:
Maasaquoi and Robiski!
just say no to Weeden!
Adcock didn’t get to go to the combine (not sure why as he was considered late2nd/early3rd round material until he didn’t get invited). Perhaps we are going to take a peek at him too?
I always liked what I saw from him, but it is hard to gauge how he would do in a pro-system (no 3pt stance, no true run blocking, etc.)
Sorry, this is wrong, he had a couple of very visible missed tackles early on and then that gets extrapolated to the whole season (like the RT play being terrible).
According to PFF who watch and grade every play, Young was the #4 safety in terms of tackling, only missing 3 all year on 57 attempts and 625 snaps.

Still pass
How come you don’t like Weeden?
I’ll take your word for it, I admit that I am only remembering the huge missed tackles and not the rest
I’m with you on Blackmon. Not so much on another.
I think he has too much risk at #37, which is likely where we would have to pick him. I am not as opposed to Weeden there as I am to Tannehill at #4 by any stretch though.
The problem I had watching Weeden was just how good Blackmon was. Watch that Fiesta Bowl where Blackmon was 5-10 yards open nearly all day even as Stanford tried to bracket him.
It’s quite possible I am underselling Weeden and he is good in his own right, but with the quick-shotgun snap and 1-read throws to Blackmon, I don’t know how much you can really read from his tape.

Blackmon made him look good several times. Honestly, I don’t know much about Weedon, just that he looks like a legit QB, other then Colt ‘Prepubescent’ McCoy.
Justin Blackmon is a true playmaker, and he would give the Browns offense the true WR threat that they lack right now. Not to mention, his playmaking abilities will open up things for Greg Little and the other WR’s… making Colts job alot easier.
I live in big 12 (9, 10, 11??) country, and am a fan of Ok. State. As such I watched alot of college ball. Of course RG3 was certainly electrifiying in Baylors win over OU, but I thought Weeden showed all year how good he was at reading the defense and making quick decisions. It takes two to tango, an Blackmon never threw the ball to himself (probably could though). Weeden as a good, accurate arm. He is a heady player, and would make a great competition type for the Browns. I have been a Browns fan for near 30 years, so patience has been gifted to me. I would say get the Weeden Blackmon combo, let them compete and make us better. Who knows, Colt could pull off a great Junior season for us, and Weeden could become a great asset in 2nd qb spot. all that said… We cant afford to sell the farm for a guy (RG3) who fills one problem spot….
no your not this team needs some offensive firepower!
Only two reasons for age to be a factor, legitimately, the rest is just a lot of short sighted rhetoric, regurgitated by people who havent really thought things through. If you had to groom Weedon, for a few yrs behind a proven QB, or the few extra yrs was filled with more than a few injuries, Weedon is not your man; but hes been fortunate enough to have a good offensive line to protect, and he’s more ready or just as ready as anyother rookie QB comming into the league. Tannehill is a joke and a project, and Weedon outplayed both Luck and RG3, not saying he deserves to be first, youth and atleticism do mean something.
But he still beat both of the two top picks, and that has to mean something and is worth the risk.
