Kyrie Irving to Skip 2012 Olympics, Aiming to Play in 2016
March 6, 2012Time of Yahoo! Syracuse Report Brings Back Bad Memories For This Tribe Fan
March 6, 2012Alex White, the former first-round selection by the Cleveland Indians, may be staring at an extreme case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Otherwise considered a “choir boy” by his current general manager Dan O’Dowd, White could be facing charges of “extreme” DUI — Driving Under the Inflence — after recording a blood-alcohol level of .174, more than double the legal limit of .08 and exactly 50 points shy of Grady Sizemore’s 2011 batting average.
Pulled over in Scottsdale, Arizona, the term “extreme” is something derived via Arizona state law to magnify any influence-based arrest that involves any BAC levels north of .15.
White admitted to having two drinks prior to his arrest, occuring just after 9pm on Saturday.
“It’s very unfortunate, and I’m completely embarrassed,” said White. “It was very stupid, and I let down a lot of people, most important my family, this organization and the fans. That’s not the type of person I am.”
White was traded to Colorado in 2011, along with pitcher Drew Pomeranz, in a deal that netted the Indians right-handed pitcher Ubaldo Jiménez.

In response, Ubaldo Jimenez said, “That’s nothing. I pitched an inning on Monday against the Reds while drunk.”
Glad to know at least one state has a tiered system. Driving with a 0.15 is completely different than a 0.08.
Also, White was clocked doing 88 MPH, which is about 2 MPH less than Drew Pomeranz fastball.
I guess I won’t be taking him in my fantasy league this year…
Actually, Ohio also has a “tiered system.” You get a different penalty if you have a .08 than you do if you have a .17. I would guess many states have this, but I can’t say for sure.
2 drinks, haha
He must have pounded those 2 drinks when he saw the police lights behind him. Weird way to get ready for that encounter.
Otherwise, no way you get that high a number with only 2 drinks for the night. Unless there was a chain of custody issue. Maybe he should appeal like Braun did.
If you had two 22oz 10% bottles you’d be right around this point. (I know that’s a stretch)
Thanks, I’ve never heard this mentioned before. I know if your BAC is low then it is easier to plea bargain out of a DUI (not from personal experience).
Arizona DUI laws are the toughest in the country. With an extreme DUI he’s looking at 30 days in Jail minimum, unless his lawyer can get that pleaded down. He’ll be headed to Tent City. I’m surprised this doesn’t happen in the Cactus League more often to be honest.
Two of those fishbowl drinks….
Hopefully this means the rest of the guys in spring training are little smarter than this…
Your BAC is always going to play a factor in your plea deal, just like your record and your age.
