Happy Birthday Kyrie Irving
March 23, 2012While We’re Waiting… Appreciating Ward, Ubaldo’s velocity and free agent WR available (Update: Phil Taylor Trolls the Air!)
March 23, 2012Despite the final score, the Buckeyes got a real scare tonight. Ohio State used a 20-point first-half effort from Deshaun Thomas to build a 12-point halftime lead. UC came firing out of the second half gate and took a 4-point lead just before the midway point of the second half. It took a burst of Aaron Craft’s defense (6 steals) and Jared Sullinger’s offense (23 points, 13 in the second half) to right the ship and pull the team through for the 81-66 victory. Thomas led OSU in scoring with 26 points, while Lenzelle Smith Jr. added 15 of his own. Cincinnati was led by 18 from Cashmere Wright and 15 from Sean Kilpatrick. With the win, the Buckeyes advance to the Elite 8 for the 13th time, their 2nd under Matta. They face the #1 seed Syracuse and their 2-3 zone on Saturday night at 7:05 pm for the right to go to New Orleans for the Final Four.

I want to start a bench Buford petition. Respect to all he’s done in his career but with him on the floor, we do not have our best chance to win. And isn’t that what it comes down to at the end of the day?
i missed this game, but it seemed to follow the trend of Buford putting out another stinker. What is up with his spotty, possibly even terrible play this season?? It’s hard to watch.
I have been saying this for awhile. If he is shooting well he is effective but if he doesn’t shoot well he is worthless. He can’t post, drive to the hoop, or finish on the fast break if someone is defending. Even with all this stuff I just said it’s not even the worst thing he does. He shoots so many early forced shots early in the possession that it gets us out of rhythm if he is missing because sullinger and thomas won’t get touches.
Buford had a terrible game for sure, but unlike last year’s Sweet 16 game, he wasn’t the focal point of the offense – he only took 8 shots. And the 3 that he made was the turning point of the game. It’s disappointing to see a guy play so erratically, but as long as he’s not constantly jacking shots when he’s off, OSU needs his length and athleticism on defense.
As long as he doesn’t jack up 3’s I’m happy. But I agree with you guys, he should be limited. On another note congrats to OSU for making it this far. They had ridiculous brackets the past 2 years, so it’s nice to see them move on.
scary thought: with the Cuse athleticism especially inside, Buford may be the lynchpin for the game Saturday (we know Thomas will show, but we need a 2nd 3pt shooter to break that zone)
Matta can also design some plays to penetrate and I think our size can kill them on the offensive boards. People forget that crashing the glass is another way to beat the zone and judging by Buford’s performance last night, there’s a chance that we’ll see a few bricks-turned-into-opportunities. I pray for wet jumpers.
