NBA Free Agency: Utilizing the Mosaic Theory with Wilson Chandler
February 23, 2012It’s a Shame, but the Cavaliers Need to Trade Ramon Sessions
February 23, 2012As Browns fans debate trading up to try and take Robert Griffin III, sign Matt Flynn in free agency, or keep Colt McCoy as the starter, I bring you the best Browns QBs since 1999. It was no secret that this wasn’t going to be a particularly fun exercise trying to come up with the best QB. Randy Lerner can’t stop talking about the importance of finding the right QB lately and it is indicative of just how futile the searches have been up to this point for the Browns. I mean who could ever forget “Charlie’s Fryes” as much as we might desperately desire to do so?
Tim Couch won it all with over 1200 first place votes. Kelly Holcomb got 704 and Colt McCoy got 611. Surprisingly, Derek Anderson scored more first place votes than Colt McCoy and still managed to lose third place. Seems fitting, right?
Anderson had 731 second place votes and McCoy had 700. For whatever reason McCoy crushed Anderson in third place votes 874 to 632. I am not sure if we can really hold that against D.A. as some fans are exceedingly hopeful for the future if nothing else.
So that’s how it ends. Tim Couch takes the top spot. We’ll have more on this as we attempt to make sense of it all and draw some conclusions or lessons about how to build the team going forward.
Offensive Line – Left Tackle | Left Guard | Center | Right Guard | Right Tackle
Pass Catchers – Wide Receivers | Tight Ends
Runners – Running Backs | Fullbacks
Defensive Line – Defensive Ends | Defensive Tackles
Secondary – Cornerbacks | Safeties

Now, to light myself on fire.
Just saw this on cleveland.com. Congrats on earning the recognition.
Gotta go with Kelly Holcomb here. None of the others have ever taken us to the playoffs.
Colt is winlesss in the AFC North, yet he’s 3rd place? That truly goes to show how pathetic recent Browns QBs have been.
Ouch, Couch beat Holcomb? And those are our two best QBs since 1999? Pathetic.
Seriously? Holcomb only played 4 games (2 starts) in 2002 went 2-2 and had more INTs than TDs. Sure, he played well in that shootout game against Pitt in the playoffs. On the other than, Couch started 14 games that year and went 8-6 with 18tds and 18ints. On what planet is Kelly Holcomb > Tim Couch????
To get to the playoffs … Couch played and won against the Steelers(?) with a broken leg. Without the great play of Couch we would have never made it to the playoffs. You give credit to Holcomb?
Derek Anderson had the best single season of any QB on this list. I’m kind of stunned that Holcomb beat him, let alone McCoy.
I hope Tim has forgiven us . . . or at least realizes that not all of us are jerks.
BTW, I remember some draft guru gushing over the Browns for getting “a steal” in Charlie Frye in the third round.

I dont’ believe in Karma, but I’m beginning to believe that the last decade of Browns seasons are some sort of cosmic payback/equalization/justice (but not Karma) for the way a vocal idiotic segment of fans treated that kid.
don’t forget, Holmgren picked up Charlie in Seattle and tried to lay his magic hands upon him. Not sure if that should worry us.
Imagine this scenario: Tim Couch behind that 2007 OLine. Granted, we won 10 games that year but he was far better than DA could ever dream of being. Who knows how his legacy would have been if he only had a line! Not saying we have a superbowl or two to show for it but I know it would have been more than that 1 playoff appearance.
I was away from Cleveland during Garcia’s year here but I am surprised it flopped as big as it did. He’s the guy they are hoping McCoy turns into in my opinion.
I have to agree. Sadly, that one year is enough to have him #1 in my book.
In ten years, this poll will read:
RG3 100%
Man, I hope so.
Tim Frickin Couch nothing else has to be said. Man the more writings on positions since 1999 the worse it gets.
Wow. If this list doesn’t scream out to Randy Lerner’s failures I don’t know what does. Every person shown should be a list of who is the best 2nd string quarterback for the browns from 1999. I don’t see one good starter on this list. How is Randy Lerner not held more accountable for his moves. Am I missing something.
What stinks is someone is going to throw a huge package at st. louis. If he has a good workout it might get out of hand but I would already vote for RG3 if we had the 2nd pick in the draft.
It’s not as mystical as all that and its not just one guy. Look at how our fans treat all our players, except for Thomas. They say terrible things about them on cleveland.com and other sites, yell at them when they’re on the field and flash obscene gestures. Now if those fans were your boss, would you work hard to make him happy or look for a new job?
It’s not the same kind of job Henry, c’mon now.
So a guy widely regarded as a large bust (even if not all his fault) is the QB who us fans have rated as our best in a dozen years.
Man, being from Cleveland sucks.
lol
I think he will be a bust and I hope the Browns do not draft him. They have too many holes to fill than to go after the 2nd (or maybe 3rd) best QB in this draft by trading up.
Well said.
Is it bad that I don’t remember Pederson at all and had to Wikipedia his @$$?
I wish I could feel more enthusiastic about Colt, but, I just don’t think he’ll ever become for what everyone is hoping. Quinn. Couch. McCoy. What is it about Cleveland that destroys the careers of promising young QBs? One might say it’s that ownership has not been willing to surround these guys with players of the same caliber. But look at Indianapolis? Last season made it painfully clear that Peyton Manning was that team. Without him, they were absolutely horrible. With him, they contended every year, won a ring, and almost won several more rings. It just goes to show ya that a QB has to have the IT factor, and none of the guys listed above ever had it.
