Positional Revolution Heads to Cleveland
January 17, 2012Phil Dawson “Watching Playoff Football…..Again”
January 17, 2012In a press conference set for 1:30 on Tuesday afternoon, the Cleveland Cavaliers’ ownership team – led by Dan Gilbert – is set to announce their purchase of the region’s Arena Football Team the Cleveland Gladiators.
Orignally reported by Cleveland Scene, Gilbert’s ownership of the AFL franchise will only bolster his presence within Quicken Loans Arena, ultimately leading to increased foot traffic to the casino which is set to open up directly across from the multipurpose venue.
Gilbert’s ownership of the Lake Erie Monsters has served the city and team well due to the perpetual cross-promotion and funding the hockey franchise has received. Given the sufficient marketing, promotion and funding expected to be provided to the Gladiators, this transaction should only further the development of a team which has only been in Cleveland since 2008.
“We’re very excited about adding the Gladiators to our family of teams here at The Q,” said Len Komoroski, president of Quicken Loans Arena. “The AFL offers a high-energy, action-packed product that fits very well with our own approach to sports and entertainment. We will operate the Gladiators in a new, expanded way that will result in an even better value and fun, super-charged experience for our fans, while also creating a great platform for the team’s future success on and off the field.”
It is anticipated that Bernie Kosar, former Cleveland Browns quarterback and current friend of Gilbert, will stay on as Gladiators’ special advisor as he will be present at Tuesday’s press conference.
