Pat Shumur’s Tough Media Day
December 6, 2011While We’re Waiting… Talent Gaps, LaPorta and Fans Creating NBA Overspending?
December 7, 2011While looking on the Browns’ homepage today, I came across this strange looking jersey in the team shop.
It appears to be a brown version of the team’s current jersey.
My first thought was this was a ‘throwback’ of sorts. I remember the Browns wearing something other than all-white before. I even own a Brown jersey with Jim Brown’s number 32 on it. But no, it is not a throwback.
Then I thought it must be some special alternate jersey. But alas, they haven’t worn it yet this season. And with ONLY ONE HOME GAME REMAINING, chances are slim they actually do wear them. So it must not be a special alternative uniform. I mean, what team would bother to HAVE A UNIFORM THEY NEVER WEAR?
Maybe I’m being too hard on the team. I mean, there is something to be said for consistency. Who doesn’t like seeing the same thing over and over.
The same thing…
Over…
and over…
and over…
again.
It’s kind of like hearing your favorite song…
On repeat…
forever.
And hey…
who wouldn’t want that?
Am I right?
Sigh.

Brown jerseys and orange pants. Bring back the Kardiac Kids baby!
they sure are showing respect to whatever year’s team they were “honoring” by wearing white all year.
I’d be 2% happier with this team if they (1) wore the orange uniforms with the white pants and (2) if they wore the G.D. Brown uniforms that everyone loves with the orange pants.
At least they’re not wearing or selling the Brown pants.
“surrender” flags are all white….coincidence?
Well, you might as well wear the same thing over and over again since you’re doing the same thing over and over again (being inept).
IF THEY WON, I WOULDN’T CARE IF THIS TEAM WORE PINK.
Wearing Brown Jersey over Orange Pants > White Jersey over Orange Pants > Brown Jersey over White Pants > White Jersey over White Pants > Anything involving an Orange Jersey or Brown Pants.
May those two options be forever put in storage and never seen again.
Also:
Seriously, I know it’s been written about before but it’s been over 9 years. Do we really need Al’s name on the jerseys anymore? Are the Browns the only team in the league that keeps initials of a fallen member of the organization on the uniform for more than a year of so (besides the Bears)?
Just say no to orange pants.
What about the special edition Green version? You can only get it in #12.
This team hasn’t earned the right to wear the Brown jersey’s
This again?!?!? Stop. If the Browns were winning, no one would be talking about this. Was anyone complaining about the all white uniform when the Browns during the Otto Graham/Jim Brown days? How about the Bernie Kosar days? Nope, didn’t think so. To me, the white/white IS the Browns…always has been, always will be, like the white Cowboys home jersey (I understand the need for a brown jersey, like the Cowboys needing that blue jersey once in awhile). But if people really yearn for the hideous brown/orange combos (any combination), I’m guessing a) they’re just tired of talking about the losing, or b) they also pine for those just as awful late 70s Tribe getups (same era, same nauseating fashion sense). But
Look, I love this site, and I miss living in Cleveland and going to games. But I don’t miss stuff like this.
Love the all white all the time.
Hahaha, well done Rick… love the theme of Colt McCoy getting obliterated by opposing D-lines because it’s true to life.
*when the Browns wore them during the Graham/Brown days. Also strike ‘But’ from end of first paragraph.
Was so mad, my editing and sentence moving got jacked up. My kingdom for a edit function after posting…
I’m sooooo tired of white-on-white that I wouldn’t mind seeing those nasty all brown pants just to switch it up a bit (and I HATED those brown pants).
I get the whole white-on-white was a home tradition but why wear them all the time?
How about white-on-white for the home opener and that’s it?
Bring back the brown jerseys, the brown pants, the orange pants…I don’t care anymore since the white-on-white is so boring just do something different.
Just my 2 cents.
I dunno if any of you listened to Mike Trivisonno yesterday, but I agree 100% with his idea of starting all over next year. Burn the jerseys, burn the logo, the colors, sell the naming rights. The guy we took the name from is in Cincinnati. The actual Browns play in Baltimore. This sorry bunch who has never appeared in a super bowl needs to oust all the old demons, the bad teams, the bad history, the bad breaks, the bad colors and jerseys, all of it. New name. New colors. New everything. Fresh start. It’s what should have happened when the “Browns” returned over a decade ago. Ever see what a fresh start, new name, new logo, etc. has done for a team? Check your history, it’s the right move.
Thank you Pat. Waded through a ton of pictures to find the right ones.
I like the all-white. My favorite alternates are the numbered helmets and the brown jersey/orange pants, though the latter haven’t been brought back since their departure if I’m not mistaken.
But, yeah, I’m also for… they could wear all brown for all I care if they won.
They should wear orange jerseys with brown pants, a look befitting of their play…
All white is my favorite. This has been the one thing I like about this year.
Doesn’t the home team dictate what color to wear? THe Browns changed things up back to the 80s this year and decided to wear white at home, while most teams wear their color (non-white) at home, hence the browns also wear white on the road…
Great photo montage poor Colt even his detractors can’t blame the guy after his beatings. As for the uniforms, please no KKs save those for when this teAm might actually compete.
Nice work Rick – time spent on the imagery is much appreciated.
@Mallalubba – I agree. I hate Lerner’s name being a constant fixture on the sleeve. Just reminds me of Al’s role in facilitating the Baltimore move, and our collective amnesia about it.
Here’s the real question: if you removed the “AL” from the jerseys how long would it take Randy to find out? I put the over-under at 15 months.
OMG so that is what the AL is on my jersy. I thought it stood for “almost legit” and teams get to take it off when the win a playoff game.
@Robbie – Yes! I never understood why this team never stuck with the numbers on the helemts! That would look awesome plus we could have the logo in the center of the field be the helmet with the year on it or a ring of honor member!
The Browns’ colors are Brown & Orange.
I prefer browns shirts, orange pants. I find the all whites to be quite boring. Even if the browns go 12-4, i would still prefer the brown over orange (but I would most likely care less).
Oh, and news flash….Paul Brown died in 1991.
why is this being written about yet again? browns announced before season they were wearing wht/wht at home to “honor” PB–whatever that means. On the road, they have no say. Most/all teams where dark jersey at home therefore visitors get wht jersey…
I am all for keeping the name and colors, but I want them to “modernize” the uniforms. I know most of the older fans want to keep the nostalgia from the good teams, but come on this look has nothing but SUCK written on it. Lets get a fresh new look, and hopefully the team will follow.
I say again, lose it all. Start anew.
Sam Rutigliano actually said the Browns would be better off to forfeit the game on Thursday than play the Steelers. Bleak, bleak times…
Great read!
On a side note. Have you guys noticed the influx of chinese import of Browns jerseys? You know, the jerseys that are like the brown Browns jerseys, but the color is slightly off. And the letters of the name on the back are not the right size. I cannot remember seeing as many of those as I have this year
Clearly they need to go with orange jerseys and orange pants. Their look might as well reflect their play – awful.
Or, as a metaphor, they can go brown jerseys and pants. As a punishment for being awful, “if you’re going to play like crap…”
No way… let’s wait for a good team first.
Never change. Period. As fans we will all be even more infatuated when we start winning. For those of you arguing for change, I dare you to go look in the attic and find some old Browns gear. You will, and it will be awesome that it is still 100% prevalent. Your kids will wear your old jerseys, hats, etc. DO NOT CHANGE.
Only change that would interest me is putting the numbers on the helmets like they did a couple years ago.
I wonder if any of the Yankee sites think they should change uniforms? I can’t stand teams that are constantly changing their uniforms for the sake of the almighty dollar. PUt a winner on the field and they could dress in short pants and tank tops for all i care.
I’ve been saying this all year. For some reason Mike Holgrem said that “tradition” is that the Browns wear white at home. I have no idea where he pulled this idea from. Regardless, it’s retarded. Wear white at home for the first half of the season when it’s hot and make your opponent make a dark uniform to soak up the heat. But in the second half of the season, wear the brown uniform at home! We are the Cleveland BROWNS after all. When a team can’t even get the simplest of things right, you know they have big problems.
Barkley to Floyd. TOUCHDOWN BROWNS!
Wondering if commenter #27 is actually our team’s president 🙂
Count me in board for brown jerseys/orange pants. My favorite color combo for the Browns. Also LOVE the idea of numbers on the helmet, and I forget who said it, but putting the number of a Ring of Honor member on the Helmet logo at the 50 yard line is brilliant!
@Jay…
HAH, it took me two full minutes to understand what the heck(gren) you were talking about!
I also wouldn’t complain about numbers on the helmet, by the way.
The Brownie was making a sweet comeback for a while, but it seems to have vanished just like our hopes at the beginning (and middle) of every season.
If we can’t mix up the play calling the least we could do is mix up the color scheme! Bring back the Orange Pants!
Does anyone know if they number on top of the shoulder pads is required? I know it’s a fairly recent addition. I liked the 80s version of the uniforms the best, without the numbers on top of the shoulder pads. Now they just have too much going on. The number on the helmets was great too. Would be cool to see them bring those back.
Nick, I agree that the TV numbers should be moved from the shoulders to the sleeves. When the Browns announced that they were bringing back the “classic” uniforms in 2006, I was thrilled; but when I saw the results, I was more annoyed than anything else.
For starters, the TV numbers were still on the shoulders – a big no-no that changes the entire uniform look. Second, the Browns opted to wear plain brown leggings with both their Home Whites and their Road Browns. In 2010, the Browns took a half-step towards correcting this by bringing back the orange-brown striped leggings with their Home Whites; but the Brown uniform still features plain brown leggings, when the “classic” uniform featured browns leggings with orange and white stripes.
And yes, absolutely, the Al Lerner tribute needs to go. Al’s name should never have been on the uniform to begin with, given that he helped Art Model move the team in the first place.
