While We’re Waiting… Buckeye QBs, Thomas and Freeney and Rocky Colavito
September 21, 2011What to Do with Grady Sizemore’s Option
September 21, 2011In the event that Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Baron Davis needs internship credit for his recent back-to-school endeavor, local public relations firm Ligget Stashower would like to help.
With the NBA in full lockout mode, like several of his teammates, Davis, 32, has opted to head back to college. Returning back to his old stomping grounds at UCLA, the veteran point guard is attempting to obtain a degree in history, something that became increasingly more important to him following the passing of his grandmother this past season. Whether or not Davis needs an internship to obtain his bachelor’s degree is unknown, but Ligget Stashower is there to help.
Creatively capitalizing the N, B and A in “Intern Baron,” the LS website dedicated to bringing Davis aboard – complete with an “LS” headband on a bearded graphic – says the following:
We recently heard you’re taking advantage of your time off from basketball by going back to college. We wish you the best of luck as you look to finish your degree.
We’re not sure of UCLA’s regulations, but many universities require that students complete an internship to graduate. Frankly, every student should pursue an internship. It’s the best way to try out a career while you still have time to change your mind. That said, Liggett Stashower would like to offer you an intern position.
We’re a full-service advertising & public relations agency in Cleveland, Ohio. Our office is full of not only Cavs fans, but fans of continual learning, positive attitudes and beards – all of which you’ve got!
Inc.com has allegedly deemed Liggett Stashower as one of “America’s Coolest Internships,” one that appears to be fairly exclusive – they bring a mere four-to-eight students per year. The fact that Davis lives and attends school on the west coast could serve as a logistical hurdle for Davis to consider Ligget Stashower’s offer, but if the Association does decide to reconvene any time soon, the bearded one could consider hanging out in Cleveland for an extra few weeks once the 2011-12 season came to a close. Under contract through the 2012-13 season, Davis could conceivably finish his coursework as a member of the Cavaliers if his two-year forecast is accurate.
The Summer 2012 application process tips off on November 1, but it’s safe to assume that Davis would not have to go through what stands to be an otherwise rigorous procedure to obtain a temporary position within the firm.
Ligget Stashower has attempted to reach out to Davis via Twitter. The two-time All-Star has yet to publicly acknowledge the offer.

unfair that those b-words at WFNY stick Scott with this story and the insult gets compounded by NO READER COMMEMTS. Ok pal, here ya go: startling how little I care right now about the NBA as a whole, the Cavs in general and Baron Davis’s off-court activities in particular.
You’re welcome. You’re work here is finished and you can concentrate on your day job.
Good PR idea from a smart guy. Hope they got some interest in the internship program out of it.
PR agencies will send over their portfolio, or you can visit the firms and check it out. These portfolios will give you a clear picture about the operations of the agency, and the PR campaigns it has run in the past. From the portfolio, you will be able to see whether the PR campaigns are right for your business, and if you want to hire the agency in the future.
