The Bright Side For Jason Pinkston and Browns Fans

August 31, 2011The Indians may be closer to getting some line-up help than previously thought. OF Grady Sizemore is going to start a rehab assignment at AA Akron-
“Cleveland Indians outfielder Grady Sizemore is scheduled for a rehab assignment with the Akron Aeros tomorrow night against the Reading Phillies at Canal Park. Sizemore has been on the Indians disabled list since July 18 with a right knee contusion.
In 2011, Sizemore is hitting .237 with 10 home runs, 21 doubles, one triple, 29 RBI, 17 walks and 75 strikeouts in 61 games with the Indians. This will be Sizemore’s second rehab stint with the Aeros. He appeared in four games in April going 5-for-14 with two doubles and three RBI.”
You can expect Grady to be in Akron today and tomorrow. Whether they send him on the road with the Aeros is debatable.
A healthy Grady would obviously be a huge addition to the Indians line-up as they try to fight back on top of the division. The concern is that Grady wouldn’t be healthy, and hasn’t been 100% at all this year. The good news is that the Tribe won’t have to send someone down after tomorrow to activate Sizemore.

that was an ominous title. i was expecting to read there was some setback and that he was going to have a long-road to ever playing again.
or maybe that’s just how my brain is programmed when sizemore is in the title now.
Seems to be a desperation move by both Sizemore (going into an option year) and the FO for a late season run (ah-hem attendance, cough cough).
So what if it is a desperation move for a late season run? Are we supposed to give up and just mail in the rest of the season? Would you rather see the Tribe finish in 4th and have crowds of 5000 people down the stretch?
The Giants were 5 games out at this time last year. I mean its a long shot sure, but stranger things have happened.
we should keep reminding Detroit of 2006 and 2008 when they blew late season division leads.
Still only 4 back in the loss column…sometimes you would think we were 20 back. Anything can happen.
He’s no Shelley Duncan!
Will both Sizemore and Laporta be eligible for the post-season since they played earlier this year? Just thinking out loud because I thought you have to be on the roster Sept 1st in order to be in the post-season. (not in minors)
@3 – Apparently it’s another depraved plan by those dastardly Dolans. Here’s what they’re hoping for: to win games. This will cause fans to come to the ballpark and spend money. They will then funnel this money to themselves.
It’s all part of a larger master plan where-in the Indians make the playoffs (and maybe even the World Series) which will entertain these unsuspecting fans (or as I call them, sheeple) and (again, *GASP*) get them to foolishly hand over their money to the manipulative Dolans.
They slyly did something along these lines last week when (I’m out of *gasps*) they signed Jim Thome in an attempt both make the team better and draw in nostalgic fans.
It’s just bad, exploitive ownership really. Chris is right to be indignant.
Playoffs, playoffs? Championship, championship?
@Ghost and NJ
Yea, yes we are supposed to mail it in this year and while we are at it we might as well sell the team and close the doors forever.
When I said the move is that of desperation I meant it as just that.
It’s a desperate move to force an injured Sizemore back into this lineup before he’s 100% healthy.
The same way it was a desperation move to grab an aged Jim Thome to boost an anemic offense.
Neither move builds the lineup for next year.
Thanks for your sarcastic replies….I thought we were friends. 🙁
And by building the lineup for next year I am conceding the division race for this year
In fact I conceded the division race after the losses to Seattle.
So if that makes me an “indignant” Cleveland fan, so be it.
As for the Dolans and their “master plan” I’m buying the theory that they are simply fixing up the house before they sell it in 2013.
But that’s just the theory I’m buying into.
You may now also post your completely sarcastic replies to it as well.
Sorry for the snark, but the nonstop nitpicking leveled against the Dolans drives me bonkers.
First off, we’re not going to be able to build the roster for next year with waiver wire trades and guys coming off the DL. Those types of transactions hardly ever work that way.
And like Ghost said, we ARE desperate. You may have conceded, but ownership/management sure as heck can’t. People have criticized them in the past for conceding, for not making a push when they should. Now that they are being active, we’re dismissing them as desperation moves made in an attempt to boost attendance? I don’t think that is fair.
I just wish people would pay more attention to what our guys are doing on the field. Can the Indians (and Browns for that matter) have one season where the majority of discussion revolves around the games and not ownership/trades/front office drama?
