Browns Practice Notes: It’s Slow Going for Offense Early, Reggie Hodges Out For Season
August 2, 2011While We’re Waiting… Tribe Moving Forward and Solid Reads Today
August 3, 2011According to the player’s twitter account, and other reports, first-round draft pick Phil Taylor has reached an agreement with the Browns on a four-year deal.
Taylor and the Browns were said to be at odds on whether or not the fourth year would be of the guaranteed variety. Early reports do not yet include the details of the contract.
Earlier in the day Colts draft pick Anthony Costanzo (22nd overall) signed a four-year deal with the first three years guaranteed. The 20th overall selection, Adrian Clayborn received a deal with all four years guaranteed. That put Taylor (21st overall) in the middle, and a precedent setter.
Taylor will be a welcome addition to the middle of the Browns defensive front, and is expected to begin working with the starting unit right away per our own Craig.
Update: Now with photo evidence!
Update Part Deux: Tom Heckert’s thoughts via press release…
“We are very happy that we were able to sign Phil and now have all eight draft picks under contract. It was important to get him in here when we did, and I want to thank Peter Schaffer for all of his help in getting this deal done. It is apparent that Phil kept himself in excellent shape since we drafted him and he told us he can’t wait to get started. He will be in meetings with the rest of the players tonight and jump right into the mix when we are back on the field Thursday.”

Didn’t we sign a corner today?
Yes, the Browns signed CB Dimitri Patterson who spent last year in Philly.
I like that Patterson signing, and its about freakin time that Taylor will get into camp.im excited to see what he does and hopefully starts week 1 preseason.
What’s patterson all about?
Another ex-eagle…I’m sure he’ll be better theN Eric Wright.
Hope so.
Wow….LOVE THE NEW MOBILE SITE!!
can Phil Taylor punt?
Hate to be down on a guy before I really see him, but Patterson was on that Grantland list of 25 least valuable players in the league. Not sure he’s the answer. Hopefully I’m wrong. Patterson played a lot last year from what I’ve read.
about as well as Suh can kick
Patterson still has to pass his physical!!!
I mean, he had 54 tackles (possibly because he let so many people catch the ball…) and 4 INTs. At least hes in for a random turnover… which is better then Wright can say.
To be on a least valuable players list, you had to at least have played. Hopefully whatever experience he got will help him this year, and he can at least play the nickel.
