Da Clip Show: Keeping an Eye on the Tribe’s AAA Squad – 7/19/2011
July 19, 2011While We’re Waiting… Remembering Tony Horton, Colt the Author, and Huff’s Start
July 20, 2011The Cleveland Cavaliers may currently not be under contract, but they have officially been made aware of where they will be playing in the event that the current lockout is lifted before the start of the regular season.
Though the NBA will officially tip off one night prior, the Cavaliers will once again open up the regular season against the Boston Celtics, this time on the road as they’ll square off on November 2. The team’s official home opener will occur on Friday, November 4 as they will play host to the Toronto Raptors.
Other noteworthy schedule-related points worth mentioning:
- Once again, the first home Cavaliers-Heat game will be broadcast on ESPN as it takes lace on November 18. It is the first of four nationally televised contests with the other three airing on NBATV later in the season. The Heat will come back to Cleveland on February 17 with the Cavaliers traveling to Miami on March 7 and April 6.
- Of the 41 home contests, 19 of them will be on either a Friday (10), Saturday (four) or Sunday (five) making for a very fan-friendly slate.
- Road shows include December 13 against Blake Griffin and the Clippers, December 21 against the Lakers, and January 28 against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The NBA Champion Dallas Mavericks come to Cleveland on February 4.
- Those who wanted the Cavaliers to draft Derrick Williams will get to see him on January 31.
- There will be a six-game road trip in early January, but two four-game home stands later in January and mid-February.
- February is a very Cleveland-friendly month as the team will play nine games at home with one stretch providing the Quicken Loans Arena crowd with seven home games in an eight-game stretch.
- Of the 82 games, there are 20 sets of back-to-backs with 12 of said pairs being of the home-and-away variety; not the best way to pad the win column.
- The season finale (likely another fan appreciation night) will take place on April 18th against the New York Knicks.
The entire calendar can be found over at Cavs.com. Feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments.

This is lazy of me…but does anyone know how many back-to-back’s a team normally has? If I read Scott’s post right, 40 of our games (20 pairs) are part of a B2B set. That seems rough. I thought teams had them like 10 times a year but I’ve never looked it up.
If gambling were legal, one of the best ways to bet NBA is bet against a team on the second night of a back to back. Tired legs. Doesn’t work everytime, but it sure does work a lot and shows how hard these B2B games are.
But, like I said, I have no idea if 20 is a lot or not.
Excited for the Cavs…in 2012
“the first home Cavaliers-Heat game will be broadcast on ESPN.”
ESPN will then show the standard cleveland sports failures montage and will remind us to “get over it.”
@Mike, yes but by that time we will still be celebrating the Indians world series win.
always hope…
Just improve on last year. I’ll take a better record this season, with a playoff push the following year.
So November 18th will be the very next time ESPN shows footage of The Decision or The Montage, right Dari?
I expect to see the montage played repeatedly during the world series.
On a lighter note, Booby Gibson jerseys are now 75 percent off in the team shop.
They will also do the montage with the Arena Football Playoffs.
@Dan,
True it’s harder to win the 2nd of a B2B, but the bookies know this and factor it in to the lines.
i think a good rule of thumb is if i – as a bettor – have figured it out then there’s a really good chance the bookies have figured it out too.
19 of 41 home games on a friday? Works for me.
Just wait till Kyrie gets going!
