Another tough night for Carmona: “Fausto Carmona was counted on to be the ace of the Indians’ rotation this season. His recent struggles have made him more of an enigma for a Cleveland club that is desperately trying to pull free from its June swoon.
On Friday night in the Bronx, Carmona struggled with his command in a turbulent 11-7 loss to the Yankees. Carmona’s wild performance set an ugly tone for an evening in which tempers flared, benches cleared and the Tribe’s offense remained missing in action until it was too late.
“Fausto had a rough day,” Indians manager Manny Acta said. “He really struggled with his control from the get-go and put us behind the eight ball. And we continue to struggle at the plate.”
When the smoke cleared, the Indians (34-27) had dropped their seventh game in an eight-game span. Cleveland has lost 12 of its last 16 games and has labored mightily in the batter’s box. Along the way, the seven-game lead that the Tribe held in the American League Central has since been whittled down to one.” [Jordan Bastian / MLB]

Outlining possible sanctions to come for OSU: “Following news that NCAA investigators left the Ohio State campus over a week ago (I call ‘no comebacks’), USA Today was one of many outlets examining how other big time programs have fared in the wake of major sanctions and suggested they are too big to be hurt.
Specifically, the programs in Tuscaloosa and Coral Gables were reviewed noting Miami won the 2001 national championship following major sanctions levied in 1995 while the Crimson Tide captured the crystal in 2009 after having the NCAA rule book thrown at them in 2002.
As shell-shocked OSU fans, it’s certainly welcome news that these two schools were able to rebound and win a national championship in under seven years after the hammer dropped but that doesn’t mean the return to glory didn’t hurt like a figure four leglock applied flawlessly to both pride and record book.
So, how do you define “hurt” or have you chosen to not give it much thought allowing your brain to rest from the potentially bad news? Let’s look at some of the pain felt by each program.” [Chris / Eleven Warriors]

DeShawn Stevenson still thinks LeBron is overrated: “DeShawn Stevenson made headlines earlier in the week when he said LeBron James ‘checked out’ in Game 4 of the NBA Finals, but he’s not stopping there.
Stevenson wrote on his Facebook wall early Saturday morning: “I told em Lebron is Overrated but did they listen? swag.”
Referring to James’ inability to come through in the clutch for his team and the ‘swag’ reference is the mentality that Stevenson and the Mavs are not intimidated by James whatsoever.
This is a smart move by Stevenson. He knows that Game 6 is the biggest game of James’ career and he hasn’t fared well in pressurized situations of late. Also, if past history repeats itself, the Mavs are on their way to their first NBA championship.
First it was Jason Terry taking shots at James and now Stevenson is rejuvenating the rivalry he once had with James while he was a member of the Washington Wizards.” [Chris Haynes / Pro Basketball News]
I’m hearing Lighty is working out for the Cavs here in his hometown Cleveland, and if they got him at 54 I’d be thrilled. Wouldn’t even really be too upset if they spent number 32 on him, even though that would be too high according to the masters of the mock draft.
If he’s on the board at 54 though, the Cavs have to take a flier on David Lighty. And not just because he’s a Buckeye, or from St. Joes, or whatever, but because he is the type of player who fits into a good team. He is already a quality role player, who won’t have to make the transition from star to role player, and that will help. He’s athletic, can defend, and has some offensive ability as well. He’d look good in the hometown gear, better than Jawad did.” [StepienRules]

If you didn’t see the video of LeBron and Wade doing that hilarious fake Dirk cough impersonation, here it is. It’s not as funny as a video of an NBA’er doing a fake LeBron elbow injury would’ve been though: [CBSdtw.com]

I agree that Lighty is a player that would deserve a shot to fill a wing vacancy on the Cav’s. He fits the NBA mold as the role player that can D up at several positions and at least knock down a few shots on offense. Even better might be Deandre Liggins from Kentucky. Both are among the top defenders in the draft and Liggins was one of the top 3 point shooters at the combine.
Two big combo guards, Iman Shumpert and Malcolm Lee, that want to be points intrigue me as defenders, also. They are not great shooters but with their PG and SG experience, either of them could supply defense at those positions when the Cav’s small guards are being abused. I really like the idea of having role players that add something different to the mix. Size and D are not qualities that Davis, Sessions, Gibson and maybe Irving excell in.
