“Fast forward six seasons later and Miller, now 26-years of age, is once again a fixture in the Carolina League. The oldest member of the Kinston Indians, Miller shares the same dream as all of his peers – though his road to present day is considerably marred compared to those he calls teammates. Miller, he of the once bat-splitting fastball and seemingly unlimited potential, has not been among the league’s top prospects since before the 2009 season. Several stints on the disabled list and two full seasons without throwing one pitch within the confines of an actual game, he shares a roster with what many hope can be what he should have been. Drafted in the first round in 2003, Miller joins Drew Pomeranz, taken in the first round seven seasons later.
Like Miller, Pomeranz is an intimidating mound-dweller, standing in a 6-feet-5-inches and tipping the scale at 230 pounds. Also like Miller, Pomeranz is a top-75 prospect heading into his age-22 season. But where the two men vastly differ are that said age-22 seasons could not have both men trending in different directions; Pomeranz, among the team’s best, Miller, on his way out of the game.” [Scott/ Indians Prospect Insider]

“The Browns’ general manager, Tom Heckert, was asked at the NFL Combine how a interior defender like Ahytba Rubin would be used in the Browns’ new 4-3 defensive scheme. He was specifically asked if Rubin would fit the role of a 3-technique or a 1-technique. Heckert replied that the defense would revolve around a left-right alignment. That is a crucial revelation.
If the defensive front isn’t shifting according to strength, but rather side-to-side, then players like Taylor and Rubin will be asked to serve in both roles most often seen at the professional level. They will both be asked to be strong run stuffing 1-techniques (lined up on the outside shoulder of the center). They will also be asked to penetrate and disrupt as 3-techniques (outside shoulder of the guard). Size, strength and an explosive first-step are all required.” [Sobleski/The OBR]

List of best undrafted players- “Dane Sanzenbacher, WR, Ohio State: Another Senior Bowl standout, Sanzenbacher may have slipped through the cracks due to the fact that while he is an ideal possession receiver, he doesn’t show ideal burst off the line and isn’t very explosive when he gets in space. But teams looking for a good role-player on underneath stuff could do worse. A very smart player.” [Shutdown Corner]

“Granted, the Indians don’t have the star power of even those predecessors in baseball miracles. Their pitching staff really is unproven. And while their lineup has been hot, according to most experts, it remains void of a reliable power hitter. No doubt, all of this could crumble. That’s just life in the major leagues, where 27 out of 162 games doesn‘t usually mean much.
Then again … at least the Indians are giving us reason for debate. At least they are making the lives of Cleveland sports fans interesting again.” [Amico/FSO]

Scary thing- Indians with best record in baseball at 20-8. Columbus with best record in AAA at 21-5.

Sanzy as an undrafted free agent…me likey.
Invite that kid to camp. He is a total win/win situation. He has the potential to be the over the middle posession receiver that has been vacant since Joe J went down and out. I actually wanted him as a late round draft pick. Now we may be able to land him without using a pick.
……or maybe i should take off my buckeye blinders?
can a brother get a magic number update?!?
hah love this in the FSO article… “I never heard of this guy before last week, but I like him” as the writer called him Pescano (twice!) Apparently the writer doesn’t know who Vinnie is either lol
Sanz may or may not be the right fit for the Browns, but I truly believe this is te BEST time to search for receivers. Just look for undrafted speed. There are so many above average receivers still available right now, and you can get them for little money and little risk.
Magic number update: 163 minus Indians wins (20) and second place team losses (KC, 13) = Magic Number (130)
