Browns Add CB, OL in Fifth Round
April 30, 2011While We’re Waiting…another magical night for the Indians, and more draft talk
May 1, 2011With the 248th overall pick, the Cleveland Browns have added Eric Hagg as their final player taken in this year’s draft by way of a 7th round selection.
Hagg is a DB out of Nebraska, listed at 6’1″ 209 pounds.
So put the mock drafts away for about a year Mel Kiper wannabees, it’s over.
My early impression of this draft for the Cleveland Browns is a job well done.
We will see how that plays out however, hopefully sooner than later.

From John Clayton’s piece declaring the Pats Day 2 losers:
Had they drafted Jabaal Sheard, a defensive end from Pitt, or Brooks Reed, a linebacker from Arizona, I’d make them my big winners.
Hey all, first post here. As a Nebraska alum and lifelong Browns/Indians/Cavs fan (my entire family has always lived in N. Ohio), I thought it was about time I joined up. My wife and little boy moved here about two years ago, and I’ve been lurking constantly since. This is truly one of the most well written and engaging sports sites in existence (both staff and commenters).
I know it’s the homer in me, but I think Hagg is an excellent steal this late in the draft. When at Nebraska, The Brothers Pelini were so enamored with Hagg that they built their entire defense (nicknamed: “The Peso”) with the express intent of keeping Eric Hagg on the field at all times. In my opinion, he is an even better talent than teammate Dejon Gomes, who was selected much earlier in the day.
However, I know to temper my excitement, as I was also very excited about Larry Asante last year. The problem I see for Hagg at the next level stems from the fact that he is sort of a “tweener” in the defensive backfield. He will struggle early on to cover NFL caliber WR’s, but has all the tools to contribute in some capacity (great ball skills, sure tackler). I’d project him as a FS…and potentially a nickel back…although that might be pushing it. He returned a punt against Texas for 95 yards last season, so he could potentially be a valuable special teams contributor.
Glad to be a part of this community…my dissertation of a post is officially over.

ESPN gave Hagg an overall ranking of 159, we got him at 248. Not sure why other teams seem to have passed him over for lesser graded Safeties. His scouting grade of 58 is good value for late 7th round.
Don Banks just started off his draft recap praising the Browns.
So, the Eagles now have Casey Matthews, Brian Rolle, and (sigh) Alex Henery.
Since I live here, I guess I might as well pick up a local NFC mistress.
Fly, Eagles, Fly.
I hope both the Matthews brothers break a knee. I am SOOO sick of the people clamoring for a Matthews. Get over it already and get on with the guys around.
Get over us not getting over it. See how that works? (Don’t break any bones or joints (can you do that) or anything, though.)
