Pre-Game Intel – Bengals vs. Browns
October 1, 2010While We’re Waiting… Hickson’s Turn, Byron’s Offense, and Wright’s Redemption
October 2, 2010Is Mo Williams a leader? Can Antawn Jamison play the small forward spot in Byron Scott’s offense? And will the Browns shock the world (or at least those in the viewing area) by upsetting the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday?
Andrew and I sat down with Cleveland.com producer Dan Labbe to discuss these issues and more in all of 20 minutes during our latest edition of our weekly podcast. You can catch the mp3 file over at Cleveland.com or just listen via the savvy media player below. (File is fixed – was playing last week’s podcast until about 1:45p! Apologies)
And if you missed the last few podcasts, you can find them here, here and here. Do enjoy.

Good stuff, guys.
I thought this headline “Browns/Bengals (FIXED!)” meant the Browns were a shoe in for the win. Damn
Nice work WFNY. Scott, you have a great Cleveland accent…makes me miss home
See, Scott? I told you!
hey scott, couldn’t agree more with your assessment on harrison and how he’s been used.
the problem i see, though, is unless hillis and harrison are in the backfield together, the run game is easy to read. ie, hillis+vickers = smashmouth; harrison+vickers=bubble screens.
are suggesting that hillis and harrison should be in the backfield together? i would just hate to sit vickers at all. maybe a ROBUST-T is in order?
ROBUST T FORMATION!!! FOOTBAWW!!!

I think good execution trumps misdirection in this case. The Jets were able to pull off this kind of dual dynamic with Thomas Jones and Leon Washington and the Giants were able to do it with their Earth, Wind and Fire of Jacobs, Ward and Bradshaw.
Right, as EZ has mentioned, execution trumps all. If the wide receivers were a bigger portion of the offense, there would be less of an onus on the RBs, allowing them to get at least a little bit more space.
Also, something I did not mention, if the opposition is going to be spying Harrison with an OLB on potential screen plays – assuming man-to-man defense – why not send the kid out on a fly route right up the middle? They do it with Moore and Watson; Harrison would have any LB toasted by several yards. Just another option, as not all passes to JH have to be of the screen variety.
