Looking ahead to 2011: “Entering 2010, it’s clear that while [Eric] Mangini still has some influence within the organization, the Browns are no longer exclusively his. With this in mind, projecting ahead becomes a little more cloudy – as the desires of Mike Holmgren, Tom Heckert and Mangini are all fused into one vision. While last April’s draft seemed to be a collective effort between the three, it’s likely that Heckert and Holmgren will eventually be the sole architects of the team’s future.” [Cleveland Reboot]

And finally, what can Browns fans expect from Mohamed Massaquoi and Brian Robiskie? “An old NFL wise tale read something along the lines….a young receiver makes his biggest jump from that first year to the second year in the league. While this may be true for the mental aspects of the game, surprisingly the statistical research in recent years do not necessarily support the claim. In today’s game, where the passing game has seemingly overtaken the run game as focal point of NFL offenses; young wide receivers have generally struggled to put up numbers or show vast definitive improvement in the discussed time period.” [Brent Sobleski/The OBR – S/R]

I have only one question abuot the Browns’ special teams. How long until Joshua Cribbs becomes irrelevant in the return game? He has been a great returner for 4 years? 5 years? His window should be closing soon. I hope it doesn’t, because he’s shown he’s not a Wide Receiver. But we may need to start working in other players at the return games, just in preparation.
I’m reading a lot of stuff from hoopshype.com about DWest to the T’Wolves for Kosta Koufus and Ramon Sessions.
Also, the Cavs are interested in Matt Barnes. I like Barnes’ toughness.
LMAO @ 2, thats awful.
Matty, I am mildly in favor of that. Bring in a couple young guys, see what we can make out of them. Sessions is alright. I don’t necessarily think Koufus is much of a center, at least not the one we need now, he didn’t even play around the rim that much in college. Lots of midrange jumpers and 3-point prayers. What are our other options?
I have zero faith in Koufus developing into anything special. Do we really want Sessions, or is this just the only interest in Delonte’s 4 mil salary dump?
@Stink- Well I think our other options at center are Andy or Sasha Kaun and Sasha Kaun is likely to return to Russia (according to Windy)
I like Koufus’ game in Scott’s offense. He’s athletic and he can shoot.
I would like to see Sessions and Mo running the two Point Guard offense that Scott hopes to instill. Then our shooters would be Matt Barnes(close to deal, both parties interested) and maybe Flip Murray coming off the bench (Cavs interested). Playing with JJ and Andy. The second team would likely be Boobie, Telfair, Murray, Antawn, and Koufus.
Scott may even start Telfair over Mo, to bring Mo’s scoring off the bench.
Those are some good lineups if we could bring in all of those pieces.
That starting lineup would have two guards 6’3″ or smaller, and the second would have three guards 6’3″ or smaller. Haven’t we seen that it doesn’t work, even with a good defender like Delonte at shooting guard?
Tim-
A smaller lineup didn’t work in Brown’s offense, or with LBJ. But this is Scott’s offense and he wants two guards who can push the ball up the court. I say we let him do his thing. If it doesn’t work, then he’ll be looking for another job in a few years.
Yeah, I can see the offense working well, but defense is what worries me. Teams with bigger guards would be huge mismatches, and trying to outscore opponents usually doesn’t work too well in the long-run.
Matty, thats a terrible philosophy. You don’t go ahead and revamp your roster to meet a coach’s style of play if its a trial period and you’ll just get rid of him in a few years. That would leave us with a bunch of guys that wont fit the system of any future coach. You revamp your roster because you believe in your coach’s ability to get it done.
While what you said may be a subtle difference from what you meant, its a big difference in confidence; confidence that is necessary to wni.
I’d rather keep Delonte if we could. He can push the ball and create shots, something this new offense does. But if we can move him and get a decent PG and a developmental center, guess we have to take that chance.
Problem is, Koufos won’t have anyone to mentor him like JJ had Shaq & Z
ramon’s defense is his offense.
sincerely, sasha pavlovic
Stink, I meant, I would allow Scott to do the roster to his liking. Put a style of play that worked with him in the past. I don’t expect him to be fired. But if, like Tim said, it doesn’t work. Then he will be fired. But I will give him the freedom to bring in his system while giving him every opportunity for success.
look – it is pretty clear the cavs are done with West. yes he is talented but his talent doesnt significantly outweigh his baggage. at this point, if they are going to drop him anyways, why not get some value for him? Sessions is a very good player making reasonable money for just 3 more years. if they can add Koufos, even better. whats the harm in that? he is on a rookie contract still. let’s not over-analyze this here. if he stinks, then he is essentially an expiring contact. this is a VERY low risk high reward proposition.

That’s funny Scott. I guess the mob has ruled.

even when Cribbs becomes less of a return threat, he will still be a steve tasker-esque ST stopper. don’t forget there’s 2 sides to Cribbs STs coin.
@ Matt from #1, there really is no solid way to go projecting that. Remember how amazing Dante Hall was (not as amazing as Mr. record holder Cribbs mind you) ? Then one year he just stopped being as good at returning the ball. I’m hoping with Cribb’s age and general athletic ability he should be good for some years to come. Maybe not as good as last year but, he should be solid for a long time.
That being said, any injury could hault his ability to make those returns. Luckily, he’s talented in other areas, so he’ll still be serviceable when that time comes.
@16, actually Scott, this is perfectly relevant to the post. We don’t know who to put in NBA Jam along side Jamison and Williams: JJ, West, Koufus, or Sessions.
