@45 – I’m assuming that’s sarcasm; like I said I can’t say the source is credible so take it for what it’s worth. I just thought it was interesting that they said Gilbert knows.
@ Ez – love the Marty Jannety reference – used it on Facebook yesterday as an analogy.
From a basketball perspective, who is surrounding this Bron/Bosh/Wade troika? We know the Heat have to hold onto Chalmers to play PG and would love to shed Beasley. If the three all take as much as they can (Mia can’t afford the Max for any), then there’s NO CAP ROOM left. Fox is reporting an offer from MIA to Mike Miller that would pay him $5-6 million/year to come there. Are the new big three going to deduct that from their salaries? The Heat still need a starting center and right now their bench would be Beasley and a bunch of second round rookies.
How does LeBron think that’s a championship contender?
It would be a monumental effort, if one was involved in the endorsements with which James is involved, to avoid being (or appearing to be) all about being a global icon.
why should Gilbert be fuming at himself? should he have mailed in the past few years so that lebron would be on a mediocre team, like wade with miami? oh no – he went all in like lebron wanted to get a winner. gee thanks lebron.
dr. cleveland – that article is phenomenal. I hope Thomsen is right. He makes every argument for why this whole MIA situation makes absolutely no sense.
(If LBJ leaves,) I hope Clevelanders tear down teh Bron-Board as if it were a statue of Saddam after the fall of Baghdad. I will need some cathartic collective act.
ok, that’s it, i’m taking a stand. let’s stop commenting on this post and all move on to https://waitingfornextyear.com/?p=30661
i’m sick of refreshing 2 tabs haha
I don’t get the Art Modell comparisons but it’s sad/unfortunate. That being said I’m still an LBJ fan and will continue to be even at 11 PM tonight. I’m holding out some slim hope LeBron doesn’t leave but that feeling is lessening with every passing minute.
I know one thing when LBJ returns he’ll feed off the reaction so if I were the haters I’d be careful what I wish for especially if Wade and Bosh are with him.
so going with the art modell comparison – if lebron leaves, will david stern put a reasonable lebron facsimile back in cleveland? whats JR Rider doing these days?
Modell didn’t abandon Cleveland he tried to blackmail the city and when it didn’t work he snuck away in the night to a city who would pay him. Btw the city officials who were in office didn’t help matters.
LeBron hasn’t abandoned anyone. He gave you all he had for seven years. If anyone has abandoned you it was Danny “when the going gets tough the tough get going” Ferry.
As far as not being a Cleveland fan I could care less. At one time I was a diehard hometown supporter but that ended back in 1997 with another heart breaking loss. Now I root for and follow players regardless of where they play.
@74 The triple double game? Funny how Mo Williams, Anderson Varejao, Delonte West and Anthony Parker all get free passes this despite them taking virtually the entire series off. It must be me.
the Cavs dont win game 1 without Mo. Varejao was hurt that series. West – um, hes not lebron. Parker was one of the few who went basically all out, all series. its not his fault he’s not that good.
@75 – you mean the triple double game where he scored 27 but gave up the ball 9 times for something like 21 pts on turn overs? Mike makes good points Andy was clearly hurt…and we have no idea where LBJ was…I know I was at gm 5 and that sure looked like a white flag to me.
You guys are amazing…seriously. If LeBron is all of these things then you should be hoping he signs somewhere else tonight, right? Cleveland…home of the best fans around!
What’s so amazing about that? Lebron is the King…right? He should be held to a higher standard than Delonte, Mo, etc. If any of those guys coughed it up for 21 pts. the same thing would be said without a peep from the *ahem* peanut gallery…and thank you we are quite good fans.
Please use your influence in the blogosphere to begin a campaign in the state of Ohio, and beyond, to donate (and match or exceed) the amount of money that, He-Who-Shall-Henceforth-Not-Be-Named (Lebron James), has donated to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.
There is no reason that he should be allowed to use his access to the media conglomerates of our nation to salve the pain of the sin he has committed against the good people of Ohio or to implicate the Boys and Girls Clubs of America in that same sin.
It would be just and right if those of us with the means donated to the same charity with an amount they can afford. Not one of us has the means that He-Who-Shall-Henceforth-Not-Be-Named has, but there are more of us. Our voices should be heard. The people who will continue to LIVE in Ohio should support the Boys and Girls Clubs of Ohio.
I will make the first contribution of $200.00.

EZ WINS!

EZ – Now that’s the funniest thing I’ve read all morning!! That would be priceless.
hopefully he goes to Ferg’s after for some frothy brews.

et tu lebrute?
@46, LOL, but it would be Bernie going through the window I think. Cause who’s a bigger face than Bernie Kozar?
@58, Jim Brown? Jim Brown through a plate glass window?
what if he signs with the Browns as a TE?
that would be a shocker tonight

I’m choosing to take this perspective.

that’s a good read, dr. cleveland. can only wish its true.

We are actually cheering for Ian Thompson.
What has happened to us?

That article makes me happy, and able to breathe a little.
If LeBron goes to the Heat, he better hope Delonte West gets traded… otherwise, who is going to make sure his mom behaves
/boom roasted!
Shamrock
The comparison is quite obvious. Modell abandoned us, left us with nothing. Which is similar to what LBJ is about to do.
If you will still be a LBJ fan after this, you are not a Cleveland fan, simple as that.

shamrock – check that, he gave us all he had for seven years, minus one game in the boston series.
