Where Does Varejao Fit in the History of Annoying Players?
March 3, 2010Cavs vs Nets Open Thread
March 3, 2010First off, let me say that the response to this contest was tremendous. I had no idea that we would get som many responses, or that they would be so entertaining! I hope that you have time to go through and read them all sometime.
It was in fact, a bit overwhelming to read them all and try to judge. For one, I am no poetry expert. Usually when we do a contest it is simply a random draw, but since I stated that quality counted in this contest I took it upon myself to try and be critical or at least have some crtiteria for determining a winner. After going through them all I had 12 ‘finalists’ and I decided that narrowing the field from 150+ to 12 was good enough to satisfy a ‘quality’ requirement. I toyed with the idea of having everyone vote on the winner, but I also didn’t want this to be a popularity contest or an experiment in social networking. So I took the twelve ‘finalists’ and randomly drew one winner.
The winner of the contest is Ryan, who’s Haiku read-
Z, come back to me
You big bald lerpy center
The Shaq-tus is down
Ryan has already been contacted by email. Congratulations!
Those who have been with us for a while know that we like to do contests from time to time. Keep checking in, I promise we’ll do them more often if this is the kind of response we’ll get…NOW COME BACK HOME Z!!

Rick you win a prize for finding that picture.
Boo randomonium 🙁
J- you were a finalist.
arghhhhh who were the other finalists?!
I thought it was “lurpy,” but using the term is still a plus.
Congrats Ryan!
do you think the cavs will ever wear those jerseys (from the picture above) as the hardwood throwbacks? lol
Jneids- keep your head up. You threw some quality stuff up there.
I don’t know if that makes me feel better or worse! Haha, seriously tho, I think I enjoyed that contest a little too much…
Any chance we could get the finalists listed? Save me from reading all those posts myself for a laugh.
is that a King’s jersey?
It’s spelled “lurp” on his resume.
Booooo . . . The Haiku shouldn’t have included Shaq or any other player if the rules stated it was supposed to be about Z, the man himself.
That Haiku is basically saying we need Z back only because Shaq is hurt, not because Z is truly part of the team and deserves to be on the championship run.
Bad pick Ricky Bobby. At least give us the finalists. For the record, should I be on the list I withdraw all my comments.
@11 no its the mid 90’s cavs powder blue’s, alot of people thought they were ugly. I didn’t mind them 🙂
congrats to ryan! I’d like to see a list of the finalists!
WHAT THE? OUTRAGE! (And I think I submitted mine too late for consideration.)

i am aware of the 90’s powder blue uniforms. i was remarking that the shade in that image sure looks purple. my fault for not using the ‘sarcasm font’

@stin4u – I so hope they bring back the powder blues as hardwoods after the lockout season.
Am I the only one who thinks Dan Gilbert needs to arrange a special little promotional “Z Night” his first game back? He’d probably hate it but it would be a very nice touch to atone for the most-games-played brain fart.
@jack Wouldn’t it be sweet to see Lebron sporting one of those? lol
I WAS SCREWED! I demand recount. 😉
How’s it possible
that I didn’t win this thing?
Are you people nuts?
lerpy will win you a shirt every time.
While I still am partial to my Tommy Boy reference, it was a good time coming up with them, reading them, and feeling the love for Z
It’s a conspiracy!
Hey neato.. the pictures have never shown up in my posts before.
I’m waiting for Ryan’s obligatory acceptance speech / haiku
here’s what I had ready if I had won
“you all can suck it
my haiku was most awesome
I’d like to thank god”
I would argue that picking finalists, then randomizing is about as fair as you can get. Tons of great responses, and the pick would look arbitrary anyway.
/ends epic haiku streak
Can we at least find out who the finalists were?
I have to be honest, I don’t see how naming the 12 finalists does anything but make everyone mad that wasn’t on that list. My inclination is to refrain. Can’t stress enough how thankful I am for everyone that expressed their sentiments for Z. Wish I could get these in front of him!
It would make 11 people happy
@Rick
READ: I really just chose one at random and have been called out on my bluff about cutting it down to 12 first.
jk – it was a great idea
My job was made ridiculously harder when multiple submissions were made, even though the rules stated one entry per household…I do assure you that I cut the entries down to 12 like I said.
I agree, Rick, stay strong.
It’s actually funny how invested everyone is in there own 17 syllables. It’s a tribute to your good idea yesterday. Keep it in mind for the playoffs, or for the tribe season – an insult haiku works even better.
English is my second language – what’s next a math test?
Harv is 21
You are not my real daddy
I say “good day sir”
That pic of Z is so cute… I could pinch his cheeks!
Rick,
you could stand on Z’s front lawn at night with a boombox hoisted above your head and blast that sappy tune from the montage you put together
/”Say Anything”‘d
of ALL the ryans.. :/ can you email me anyways? 😉
@Rick #31 I didn’t think about it like that. Good point. I was just curious to see which were the finalists since I really didn’t read through everyone’s (I only read the entry’s from the regular commenters and a few others)
I agree with Harv 21, everyone wanting to know how they did should show you how good of a contest this was.
I wanna see all 12.
Reveal the finalists
This is quickly turning into HaikuGate.
@#31: What it would do would be to help us not have to read through all the bad ones and focus on the good ones (since there’s so many). Although, I do understand what you mean about the rest of the 12 being bitter.
