Could Ohio State Be a #1 Seed?
March 4, 2010Zydrunas Ilgauskas Announces Intentions to Return to Cleveland

JJ’s been dy-no-myte: “In his last 10 starts, J.J. [Hickson] is averaging 12.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, and is shooting an absolutely wild 65% (54-of-83). In those 10 games, he has never once shot below 50% in a single game.
Yeah, a lot of those were weakside lay-ins or dunks in transition . . . but that’s exactly what the Cavs want. A player who can stay active, find his own opportunities to score and rebound, and finish strong on point-blank shot attempts.
He doesn’t need to stretch the floor (especially with the addition of Jamison) all he needs to do is be able to play off the other members of the Cavs’ frontline.” [Wine and Goldrush]

SLAMOnline sits down with former Cavalier point guard Eric Snow: “Mike Brown [Snow’s coach with the Cavaliers] was always about cementing without a doubt that you can attain something nobody else thought you could accomplish. He is a good friend of mine who accomplished a lot of great things.” [Ryne Nelson/SLAMOnline]

I know Tom Heckert said he’s comfortable with the Browns WRs, but… “One thing we know about [Arizona’s Anquan] Boldin is that when he plays, he plays hard, and extremely well. It’s safe to say he’s the hardest-hitting wide receiver west of Hines Ward. He would fit right in in the AFC North, and would immediately step in as the number one receiver on a team that simply doesn’t have one.” [Cleveland Frowns]

And finally, a most excellent move by Jim Tressel: “According to OutSports.com, a national publication that serves the gay sports community, Tressel is believed to be the first major FBS head coach to conduct an exclusive interview with a GLBT publication about gay issues. Stanford head coach Jim Harbaugh spoke to the gay-activist organization GLAAD in December after being accused of yelling an anti-gay slur during a game.” [Adam Rittenberg/ESPN Big Ten Blog]

Look forward to seeing your article on Z later today.
I’d be all for Boldin in orange & brown. He’s better than anything you’d get w/ the 3rd round pick they’re asking for.
I have to admit I have never been on the JJ bandwagon. Until now. I always questioned his ability to develop a jumper, better one on one defense, better hands, etc. I still wonder how much of that will come. But in the last 10+ games I can see how perfect a fit he can be with LeBron. JJ just attacks the rim and is really explosive. I dont know if he will ever be able to create his own shot but, for this team right now, he doesnt have to. If JJ just keeps bringing what he can each night, he will do just fine.
I almost just want New York fans to get embarrassed somehow after all of this Lebron hype…like Lebron comes to a press conference clad in a NY Knicks full game jersey and hat after putting out a new line of orange and blue shoes, just to publicly announce that he will sign with the Cavaliers. They deserve it after these last two years.
@ben – I kind of agree but let me play devils advocate for a second. Boldin is in his last year and suppose he walks? Still worth a 3rd rounder for one year? And I am assuming Holmgren and Heckert dont believe in our QBs. Still bring in Bolden if you dont think our QBs are any good?
I think T-Mac falls into the has been category…but I digress…I would rather have a team of has been’s (fully in-acurate statement) than a team of never-will-be’s
I like how JJ has improved on getting into position to be able to make easy baskets and actually catching the ball when it’s passed to him. I mean we’ve got LeBron for crying out loud! We don’t need everyone on the team to be playmakers. We need some JJ’s who just know how to be in the right place at the right time. So glad we didn’t trade him.
It’s getting to the point where, if LeBron resigns with Cleveland this summer, rubbing it back in all the annoying New York fans faces will be more important than the fact he resigned.
Why is it knicks fans are so high on Gallinari? They watch the same games we do right? That dude is so soft, and he’s the best thing they have to offer LeBron. It’s such a joke.
A million props to Tressel. As Spence Hall said, “look at the tolerance stones on Tressel”.
@ ben & mark – forgive my ignorance but does Ari have an offer sheet on AQ for a 3rd is that what the deal is? If that is the deal I think you do it ONLY if you can get him to resign a new contract.
@stin4u – Isint that a quote from the Mighty Ducks?
@JK – No, Boldin is under contract for the 2010 season and is a free agent after that. Boldin wants to be traded and word is ARZ is asking for a third for him (seems low to me).
to pile on…
While JJ could develop an in-game jumper (maybe this year, too; he can shoot; watch the shoot-around), his current effect is good for the team.
JJ – with put-backs and whatnot – extends the “play-makers'” range.
He allows them to play with more confidence.
LeBron will become the next Reggie Miller of New York when he signs with the Cavs
Hated and screamed at in public yet loved and respected
On the JJ issue, I have from secret league sources that the 2 points a team received count for exactly the same amount as the much more difficult 18 ft. jumpshot.
Being in the right place at the right time and also using hustle to hit back screens over and over to get good position around the basket are talents that anyone who calls themselves a forward should have.
@Ben AMEN I mentioned long ago talking to Arizona about Boldin and this is from someone who thinks we should draft defense and alot of it. Boldin not only has the right temprament but is willing to work and unlike the long laundry list of WRs this town has seen come and go Boldin actually has talent and isn’t washed up. I’d love a trade for this guy.
@Hickson fans I have to give JJ credit he’s been playing tremendous especially his defense against a much larger Brook Lopez of the Nets. That is how you win over people and demonstrate that you are indeed learning and can do more then just dunk a ball. I’ve also seen a few glimpses of a mid-range game which, if Hickson can continue develop, shows a bright future ahead. Here’s hoping the young buck can keep it up!
@boogey I’ve been right there with you on the Boldin bandwagon the only thing that concerns me is that this team probably isn’t going places in 2010….so what are the odds we can get him to resign after this year?
LeBron staying in Cleveland would be the biggest slap in the face to New York. They got rid of the whole team all in the CHANCE of someone going there. I would love it.
continuing on the LeBron as Reggie Miller take:
it seems that LeBron feeds off of any energy from the crowd.
MSG cheering him on, he explodes for a great game.
Bosh’s GF heckling him, he explodes for a great game.
I actually am cheering for NY to hate him because I think it would be fun to see what heights he really could reach against their *cough* defense *cough*
@stin4u Of course a long term deal would be desirable a one year deal makes no sense at all. Since I’m a proponent of drafting defense and using free agency to address the offense Boldin just makes great sense the problem is he’d probably cost that #7 overall which then lessens the opportunity to improve the defense with a high pick. The contract and the fact that the Browns don’t even know if they have a QB fly in the face of me wanting Boldin but the guy is a playmaking stud. He’d be their best player the moment he was added. All that said it won’t happen but I can dream.
Buckeye fans are luckier than we realize having a class act like Tressel runnign the team. Thanks for the link.
