More on the “Brown Out”… “Folks, including commenters here, and Tony Rizzo, and Mike and Mike, have congratulated Randall for obtaining so much apparent support for his cause, and for his success in getting Lerner to meet with him and Schaefer, as though that in itself was an unqualifed good. But it’s not. It’s an abuse of power. […] Because when ESPN, Sports Illustrated, and just about every other national sports media outlet in the country writes and talks about Randy Lerner meeting with Browns fans, and you are the most vocal of the only two Browns fans who these outlets are writing and talking about, then you do represent Cleveland Browns fans, whether you like it or not, and no matter what you self-servingly say.” [Cleveland Frowns]

Ferry getting cute on draft day: “I reported this on my NBA 411 segment on “Mike and Mike in the Morning” today: According to information gathered from multiple league executives, DeJuan Blair was 10 seconds away from joining “King James” and “The Big Shaquisition” in Cleveland.” [Chris Broussard/TrueHoop]

“After what must have felt like an eternity, it finally happened. After years and years of disappointment and despair, happiness and joy finally reigned down on a forlorn franchise and its fans. Yes, ladies and gentleman, after nearly a full decade without a World Series championship, New York Yankees fans finally awoke from their unbearable nightmare to fulfill their dreams of World Series euphoria.” [MidwestSportsFans]

“All the things money can buy in sports paid off handsomely. It was a season in which the team with the most wins, the highest payroll, most versatile lineup in baseball and the game’s deepest bullpen won. No reason to do anything but applaud the Yankees for winning like this. The time for decrying the imbalance that saddles baseball with the two-tier structure — the haves vs. the have-nots – has long ago past. What is in the future are more championships for a team that can outspend its rivals.” [Real Clear Sports]

Sigh…Sound the hack alarm: “While LeBron may not have a front row seat as the Yankees roll by on flatbeds, he will have a first-hand view as to how New York City treats its champions. […] Getting a whiff of that smell of champions — warm bubbly and cigar smoke — can make any ring-envious superstar dizzy, and maybe it throws a scare into Gilbert and Cavs fans who rightfully fear losing LeBron like a toddler fears losing a security blanket.” [Rob Peterson/NBA FanHouse]

No one would care about Blair if he were on the Cavs. He’d just be another name collecting dust on the bench. I thought mike brown turned the corner as a coach last year, but more and more it’s becoming obvious the real coach of the year went to detroit.
DCBucks-ease up a bit on Brown for the time being. Give him some time to work out the rotations; he hangs his hat on defense-as successful playoff teams do. I remember having to sit at Cavs games while hearing Brown get bashed insessently, before he began taking the Cavs to the precipice year after year. Let’s see how things shake out a bit first.
While we may have missed out on Blair, let’s hope Leon Powe is ready to play in the second half of the year-his intensity would be great.
I’m just wondering how long the “Twin Towers” experiment can go on. I’m pretty sure everyone in Cleveland except Brown figured out it’s horrible 5.5 games ago.
One slow guy on the court at a time is plenty.
@ #1: Blair would be collecting dust on our bench, are you kidding me? Blair had 14 & 9 last night against a strong Utah team. What’d JJ have? He had 0 & 2 against an average Bulls team. Hickson may be healthy but he looks terrible. We have zero production for the 4 spot when AV’s out. Hopefully Powe will bring that.
Mike Brown sticking with the Z & Shaq combo is annoyingly similar to Mangini and DA. It’s not working friend, move on!
I can’t argue with those here questioning the twin towers thing, it is frustrating at this point-I can see it in spurts/against certain matchups, but Brown sees to be forcing it. I think he’s trying too hard to ensure Z has major minutes instead of just bringing Z off the bench as a change of pace. He’s going to have to come to grips with Z getting 15/20 minutes a night.
I have always been tough on Mike Brown. I eased up when he gave up control of the offense last year to Kuester. I actually blame Ferry for not forcing Mike Brown to replace Kuester. I think Brown promoted another of his assistants, but I don’t appreciate them not having a better handle on it with this veteran roster.
We all joked about Shaq and Z being together, but Mike Brown is actually doing it for long stretches of the game. They can’t get back in transition and the Bulls have some athletic perimeter-type big guys. Where was Jamario Moon last night? He should have been a help against guys like Tyrus Thomas and Luol Deng.
Craig-I can’t argue with anything you just said above. Obviously there is an issue with Moon…….frankly, I wasn’t overly enthusiastic when they signed him to that much money for how limited he is. The guy I wanted with that cash was Matt Barnes.
Wait a minute Isis….so it’s ok to go easy on Brown, not panic, and give him time to ‘work out the rotations’, but it’s not ok to let Mangini figure things out over the course of the first few weeks of the season? (As evident in your posts dating back to weeks 1, 2, & 3 of the NFL season.)
CONSISTENCY….OBSERVE!
JJ Hickson needs to go sit at the end of the bench for a few games. Mike Brown has a man-crush on him, even though when JJ comes in, he likes to hoist up 12-15 foot jumpers continually, and get stuffed when he attacks the rim.
Dejaun Blair would’ve been a welcome addition to the Cavs. It’s a shame we missed out on that oppurtunity. I’m sure the Christian Eyenga pick will pay off…

It is possible that “ClevelandFrowns” and I disagree on every aspect of Cleveland sports.
+100000000 @Jay.
To the remedial reading room, @ben. Or maybe you, Dawg Pound Mike, and Randy Lerner deserve each other.
Thanks for the link, @Scott.
You know how when you were little you thought how cool it would be to just get paid to play video games all day? I’m slowly starting to believe that Dawg Pound Mike thought it would be cool if he could just get paid to be a fan..
@10: I’m glad you decided to respond in a childish manner. It makes me more resolute in my opinion you are wrong.
@7 and @8. Let’s be fair. Mangini has nowhere near the track record Brown has and therefore Brown has earned the right to work things out after only 6 of 82 games. Mangini has shown no signs of “figuring things out” after 8 of 16 games. This is not apples to apples.
@12: Resolute in you’re opinion that I’m wrong about everything? Why does that deserve a different kind of response than it got? I couldn’t have laid out more clearly why I disagree with Dawg Pound Mike, who you obviously agree with. What more do I have to say?
@13: Not sure what Brown’s track record is other than that he gets to Coach Lebron, but the better question is about Mangini. At least he figured out that the culture of this team needs to be rebuilt from the ground up, and to get rid of jerks like K2 and Braylon. Why you’d expect the results to show up immediately on the field is hard to understand. As is why so many don’t seem to get that you sometimes have to tear down to rebuild. Anyway, is the fact that the team is the 2nd least penalized in the league a good sign? Or the special teams? These are ways a team with no talent on offense or defense can show that they’re buying what the Coach is selling. The kind of change the Browns need doesn’t happen overnight.
@14:
– I say we disagree often.
– You suggest I read at a remedial level b/c I disagree.
Very adult.
Frowns I agree with you on a lot f your points. The guy is an attention whore, pure an simple. Listening to his interview last might on MSF makes him look like a moron too. I don’t want this idiot representing Browns fans. His inability to piece together an argument is absurd, and his hypocrisy in complaining about mangini not answering questions, while sidestepping criticism is astounding.
2nd least penalized team in the league can mean one of two things: 1) players are playing very disciplined, or 2) they are playing passively. To me, it’s a little of both. Yes they’re not getting many stupid penalties, but sometimes there are times where I’ll take a penalty over something else (for example, a first or second down pass interference can sometimes negate a sure TD). However, with the exception of the defense, which is clearly not that talented or deep despite playing ok at times (notice I didn’t say well, because they’re not), they’re not playing aggressively at all. I almost believe the team has quit on Mangini already (especially on offense).
Man Blair would have been nice here. I gotta say, I never really liked the Hickson pick, and he really is regressing. DCBucks is absolutely right; the real coach of the year went to the Pistons. Mike Brown is a defensive specialist, nothing more. While that’s fine, I don’t believe he has enough to get the Cavaliers over the top…never have. I hope he proves me wrong, I really do, but if the Cavaliers don’t improve, I expect him to be on the hot seat come January.
@14: Hilarious. Where’s the “how to be an adult book,” ben? You leave a comment here saying that you disagree with everything I write, without addressing any particular argument that you disagree with. I make a joke about remedial reading, which might seem fair enough given the content of your initial comment. Guess adults don’t have very good senses of humor. Probably not surprised if they can’t find anything to agree with at Frowns. Anyway…
@16: Here here.
@17: Who’s quit on the offense? The offensive line is playing like one of the best units on the team, no? Run and pass blocking pretty well, aren’t they? So you’re suggesting that a receiver or running back would quit? Those guys typically do everything they can to up their stats. Which leaves us with the conclusion that the running backs and receivers are just not very talented. Also, I think a better take I’d think that a team that plays passively would get called for a lot of penalties, like holding, for instance.
