Handicapping the Cavs pursuit of the Warriors’ Stephen Jackson: “LeBron and Shaq’s approval of a Jackson acquisition was well-documented throughout the day on Thursday in the aftermath of the loss at Toronto. The Cavs sorely miss Delonte West, although it’s better to not have him now than it would be to go through this in April, May, or maybe June. Even if and when West comes back, the Cavs may be looking to move quickly in acquiring more weapons to combat the Bostons and Orlandos come playoff time.” [Amar Panchmatia/Cavalier Attitude]

Nationals 3rd Base Coach will probably be added to Acta’s staff: “Tim Tolman, Manny Acta’s third base coach in Washington in 2007 and 2008, could be joining Acta’s staff in Cleveland. Tolman has roots with Acta and the Indians. He spent 14 years in Houston’s player development and scouting departments, where Acta was a player, minor league coach and manager. Tolman was the Indians minor league field coordinator from 2003 through 2006.” [Paul Hoynes/Plain Dealer]

…and the Clippers skipper is looking for an invite as well: “The internal candidates could include Lovullo and his Columbus coaches — pitching coach Scott Radinsky and hitting coach Jon Nunnally. Double-A manager Mike Sarbaugh is another possibility. It is unclear whether the Indians are considering any of the dismissed members of Eric Wedge’s coaching staff to round out Acta’s staff. Two members of that staff have already landed elsewhere, as Derek Shelton was named hitting coach of the Rays, and Jeff Datz was named bench coach of the Orioles. Pitching coach Carl Willis, first-base and infield coach Luis Rivera, third-base and catchers coach Joel Skinner and bullpen coach Chuck Hernandez are all still looking for work.” [Anthony Castrovince/mlb.com]

Iowa blogger takes a look at the race for the Big 10 title and the various games with Rose Bowl implications. As usual, OSU will play a heavy role in determining the champion: “Basically, the only way Iowa doesn’t go to Pasadena is if Ohio State runs the table from here on out, including a win at the Shoe against the Hawkeyes in three weeks. Unfortunately, that’s among the most plausible scenarios. They’ve looked miserable against good competition this year, but they’re still Ohio State, and until they get that second loss in the Big Ten, they’re a mortal threat to Iowa’s Rose Bowl hopes.” [Black Heart Gold Pants]

Wyshynski has an interview with OSU Alum and the Columbus Blue Jackets’ RJ Umberger: “We spoke with Umberger about Columbus’s maturation as a team and a hockey city; the Michigan/Ohio State rivalry, the best sports city between Columbus, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh; his thoughts on controversial hits on teammate Jason Chimera(notes) and by former teammate Mike Richards(notes); and a rather infamous Jersey Foul in his honor we published here on Puck Daddy this week. Plus the rest of the usual nonsense. [Greg Wyshynski/Puck Daddy]

Eleven Warriors with their typically thorough Ohio State game preview: “Jim Tressel will be gunning for his 90th win as head coach at Ohio State and will try to continue progressing his young team as they prepare for the tough brutal November schedule that lies ahead. The loss to Purdue earlier this month should have taught the team not to look past any opponent, but it will certainly be hard to keep the team’s full focus against a far inferior opponent when Penn State lurks around the corner.” [Alex/Eleven Warriors]

The most ring-deserving person not named LeBron is Zydrunas Ilgauskas. I think Captain Jack would be a great addition to this team on paper, but if he’s going to be coming off of the bench for that money, it is pretty hard to argue for this. Unless it’s trade Z and he gets bought out and comes back in a month, I have a tough time swallowing that pill.
Just looks like Hughes 2.0 to me…
