Replacing The Grinder, Eric Wedge: My List
October 8, 2009Preview: Blue Jackets vs. Sharks (Game #3)
October 8, 2009Hours before Braylon Edwards landed in the meadowlands to meet the members of the New York media, the Jets had reported that their new wide receiver would be suiting up for this week’s contest that takes place on Monday night.
But crowbarred in the middle of the report was an update on Edwards’ ongoing legal issue. Thanks to an unnamed source (naturally), we become privy to a detail that had not been mentioned in nearly a week’s worth of investigation. The Newark Star-Ledger reports the following:
As for the incident on Sunday, a member of Edwards’ entourage — not him — threw the punch, according to someone with knowledge of the situation but who requested anonymity because he is not authorized to speak publicly about the incident.
Or: Hey, we are excited to have our newest member. He’ll be playing this Monday. Oh, and by the way… He’s suddenly innocent.
We have heard that Edwards was in fact involved in an altercation. By now we have heard from one “source” that Edwards did in fact punch a club promoter. We have heard from said club promoter that Edwards assaulted him prior to being pulled away by teammates. But at no point, prior to today, did we hear that it was actually a member of Braylon’s entourage that landed the blow on one Edward Givens.
One has to wonder if this “report” would have surfaced had Edwards not been traded to the Jets. Witholding evidence is not exactly something that is condoned by the legal process. And within minutes of a trade, the media capital of the world suddenly has a source better than any single individual that the Cleveland police could muster.
Given this news, we can surmise that a punch was thrown. But was it by Edwards, or is someone likely to take the fall for the newest member of the Jets? The team would not want to trade for a player and then have him face a possible suspension. The legal system will likely run its course, but the timing of the trade and release of these new details – from an anonymous source, nontheless – are very convenient. For Braylon Edwards, anyways.

Why not just ask Sabrina Parr who said what, who hit who, and who threw the first punch? It’s only LE that needs all sides of the story before attaching credibility.
Just curious, anyone know what other Browns’ players were out with him?
Easy on the Parr talk here kids. This isn’t an article about what she has to say. It’s pretty obvious that if she was there the police have talked to her. Let’s leave it at that and discuss the topic at hand – New York exonerating Braylon for something they were all laughing about a week ago.
Man, this has got to create a GIANT conflict of interest for the NY media… do you run out and try and defend your brand new star WR or do you bury him right out of the gate so you can continue to do everything but send roses to LeBron?
Watch for every NY media outlet to obliterate Braylon if the Jets fall out of playoff contention just to continue their overtures to LeBron.
I am excited for Braylon.
More importantly, Sabrina is about to get ‘lit up like las vegas’ by Michael Reghi in about 20 minutes.
I don’t think LeBron gives the Hyena much of a thought one way or the other with regards to his free agency next year. If nothing else, I don’t think he’d not go to NY because Braylon was there. I think if he really wanted to get at Braylon he would sign in NY and once again become the big man in the big city. I don’t think any of that is really going to happen though. I’m just glad he’s gone and any suspension or punishment is NY/NJ’s problem now.
“The Hyena” – excellent reference.
The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist.
Wait until the Jets go south, he drops passes, people boo, and New York sees what this guy is really all about. I can’t wait for the carnage.
And within minutes of a trade, the media capital of the world suddenly has a source better than any single individual that the Cleveland police could muster.
Well, everyone in Cleveland *is* uneducated, after all.

Braylon who?
Or: Hey, we are excited to have our newest member. He’ll be playing this Monday. Oh, and by the way… One of his toadies has agreed to take the fall for him.
@#10 – you and your logic…
i guess mr. reghi didn’t feel like bringing it strong today……big disappointment.
anyway…when the NYJ miss the playoffs this year they will mark this trade as the reason why…when they don’t resign him, i hope he goes somewhere where WR’s go to waste away like JAX or OAK
It’s not strange for me to hope Braylon lights it up in NY, is it? I mean, not only will we get a better draft pick, but I’m still kind of used to rooting for the guy. And man, do I hope we get a better draft pick.
Edwards lost my respect the day he ripped Brian Russell – his team mate – for leveling an opposing WR – Chad “Ochocinco”.
@5 and @12
Yeah, Reghi’s bringing it weak today.
You know, Jets fans have to be the dumbest fans in the NFL. This is the typical Jet fan comment: “Rex Ryan’s gonna whip Braylon into shape. He can handle it.”
Gee, a players coach can succeed where a disciplinarian failed? I think Romeo’s tenure in Cleveland is proof that’s false.
Another part I find ironic is that Rex Ryan’s “loose” approach is working, but only after 3 years of Eric Mangini drafting high character players and instilling discipline in the team. It’s already ingrained in their DNA.
I DO expect Braylon to play motivated and have a “honeymoon” period in NY…but it WILL sour. I don’t even need to explain the New York media to anyone.
Hey Ammo can you explain the New York media to me pls.
# 14 – I forgot about that! What a tool. Yes, I would like the 2rd round pick as well but I have to admit, I am hoping he fails in a major way. I cant stand players who cant even try.
I hope he has an outstanding regular season and gets us our 2nd rounder. Then in the Wild Card game, he kills the potential game winning drive on 4th down and the other team runs out the clock….***dream scenario***
Denny,
I was referring to the New York media being ruthless. When you get on their bad side they’ll chew you up and spit you out faster than the flavor runs out of Bazooka bubble gum.
People are quick to slam the Cleveland media for being ruthless, agenda driven and negative. I don’t think they’re even close to NY.
Braylon thinks he’s gonna light up the big city. Wait until he has a rough patch and the media jumps on him. He may have an episode above and beyond anything he ever did in Cleveland because the pressure and scrutiny will be so tough.
Ammo – I tricked you into typing things out LOL!! I knew what you meant but acted obtuse for humor!
Welcome to the site!
I think Denny might be bored
I don’t think you’re giving the NY media enough credit. I’d propose that they’ll chew and spit quicker than Zebra Stripes loses it’s flavor. Much faster IMO.
That 5 gum is quick to lose it’s flavor too.. I think they named it after the amount of seconds you get to taste it’s deliciousness
I love the “hope Braylon does well so we get a better pick” take. Of course Braylon will do better and be a superstar again. Look at Cliff Lee, Charlie Manuel, Hoodie, and countless others whose careers bloomed after leaving this sesspool of negativity we call home.
As far as a better draft pick, why? How many of this years’ draft picks are playing? WTH Robiskie doesn’t even suit up? How Mangini loses the first 4 games and dumps his only weapon which in turn makes the fans optimistic? It’s like you all are in some bizarro world! Psychotic!
@ 25. “…Braylon will be a superstar again.” AGAIN??? Did I miss something? One good year and he’s a superstar? In my view, he is a guy with a load of talent, but unfulfilled potential. We can all speculate why, but that’s beside the point. As for Cliff Lee, his career blossomed before the trade. His departure had nothing to do with on-field or off-field issues, but was a result of small-market reality that has also been behind the majority of other big name departures.
Anyway, I want to thank you for your effort to turn around the “negativity” so prevalent in Cleveland. Very uplifting. Oh, BTW, it’s “cesspool.”
