Salt For Your Proverbial Wounds
September 25, 2009Buckeye Preview: The Illinois Game
September 25, 2009With all of our talk earlier this week regarding the need for a running game if a quarterback is going to be successful, it does not appear that things will be getting much easier with the recent news that Jamal Lewis was held out of practice for the third straight day this week. An apparent hamstring injury was suffered in last week’s debacle in Denver, and Lewis has been unable to bounce back quick enough to garner any snaps at practice.
When the injury report comes out later today, the PD’s Mary Kay Cabot speculates that Lewis will be listed as “Doubtful,” giving him a 25 percent chance to suit up against his old team. The fact that he was not even “limited” is not a good sign.
Assuming that Lewis is unable to suit up, the Browns will go to battle with rookie James Davis and Jerome Harrison – both backs suffering injuries of their own within the last month. Also in the equation will be Cedric Peerman, a running back who the Browns recently added after he was released from (wait for it…) the Baltimore Ravens.

Beanie Wells.
Agreed. We really need a guy who can’t stop putting the ball on the ground right now. That would certainly up the prospects of winning a game.
Enough with the Benie man crush.
Question for ya. Why ya care?
Its not as if it matters who’s playing at RB, as long as St. Clair’s at RT a defender will be in the backfield dragging whoever has the ball down for a minimum to no gain.
Also, the post was about running backs with injury concerns, and the moron offers Beanie Wells as the solution? Bright.
AND SINCE I POSTED 3 TIMES IN A ROW I’M AUTOMATICALLY RIGHT NO MATTER WHAT! BOO-YAH
What, 3 injured/injury-prone RBs aren’t enough? I could see the fumbling neing helpful if the ball bounds into the end zone and Josh Cribbs can use his speed to get to it for a TD. Once again, genius.
Ah, the little-known “triforce of power” rule of commenting…..you are very sneaky, Tron
Time to send Jamal to the glue factory…this horse is D-O-N-E.
Beanie Wells. Yeah. That’ll help. While we’re at it, let’s throw in Rey Maualuga while we’re at it. Jesus Isis. Play a new song.
Wells has 14 carries for 73 yards, averaging 5.2/carry. 2 fumbles and no touchdowns. His longest runs have been for 14 and 17 yards.
He’s got good numbers for two games as the 2nd option behind Hightower.
Beanie got snagged in the first round at #31. He would have been a big stretch at #5 and even in the teens. We could have a great debate about picking him instead of Alex Mack. Center was a glaring weakness on our team. Especially considering the nasties that one has to go up against twice a year in the AFC North.
If Wells was still available in round 2 when we selected Robiskie, then I would be harping about Beanie all day, in every post as well. He wasn’t. We aren’t trading for Wells. It’s over.
You have some good stuff to say but it gets clouded out by your negativity and obsession with Beanie and Maualuga.
This is a good thing. I will go out on a limb and predict 70 yards of rushing for our Browns on Sunday….
Peerman is a serviceable RB and was probably only let go because of the logjam of talent that Baltimore has at RB. I could see him sticking on the roster and maybe eventually making some contributions. It’ll probably be almost all James Davis and Jerome Harrison in this game though. I’d like to see what Davis can do with a full workload… now is his chance to shine (if it is ever to happen).
@P,
I’m with you. It would be great to see Davis have a big day. My worries are what we’ve been talking about all week though.
Passing game?
O-line blocking?
Play calling?
Davis has enough speed to hit a hole, assuming the line can make one. I’m just concerned about there being holes consistently. I see a lot of 3rd and longs again this week.

BEREA, Ohio — Cleveland rookie cornerback Coye Francies, incensed over a prank, threw a bucket of ice and at least one errant punch during a skirmish in the Browns’ locker room.
As the team returned from practice Friday, a soaking-wet Francies, apparently the target of some hazing, stormed into the locker room carrying a water bucket full of ice. Before he could be stopped, Francies tossed the ice on cornerback Brandon McDonald, hitting him with cubes and covering the floor.
Francies flung some ice in the direction of safety Mike Adams before heading toward safety Abram Elam’s corner cubicle. Francies then swung at Elam before Pro Bowl nose tackle Shaun Rogers grabbed him by the back of the shirt and escorted him out a side door.
I read that Baltimore hasn’t allowed a 100 yard rusher in 36 straight games, the longest current streak in the NFL. First off, can you imagine if the Browns did that? Secondly, we are going to get whored this week.
