Poppin’ Champagne: Akron Aeros 2009 Championship Season-in-Review (Part 2)
September 24, 2009Shaquille O’Neal to Live Next to Eric Wedge
September 24, 2009Last year was the first year that the NFL on CBS had every single game in HD. The season prior it drove me INSANE when the Browns were not in HD. Maybe I was a little early in my ranting, but it just seemed to me with the NFL being the biggest sport in the land that they should have every single game in HD. I didn’t think it was too much to ask. Now, the Cavaliers’ local TV partner Fox Sports Ohio is broadcasting every one of their 70 games in HD, which makes me happy.
“FOX Sports Ohio really got into the spirit of this being a special XL season for the Cavs,” said Cavaliers and Quicken Loans Arena president Len Komoroski. “Delivering every single game in HD is a spectacular advancement for our team and our fans and just shows the excitement that we all share for the upcoming season, our 40th. We look forward to working closely with FOX Sports Ohio to deliver simply the best fan viewing experience in the entire NBA, on and off the court.”
Soon enough I will get every single minute of every sporting event I watch in HD. Honestly, with sports, that is as it should be.
Now, if I could just get HBO to turn all their channels into widescreen format whether they are in HD or not, I would be ecstatic. I didn’t buy a rectangular TV to have the sides cut off on 90% of the channel offerings on cable and satellite.

its about time. makes you wonder why it takes so long for common sense to prevail
If by “common sense” you mean “monetary resources to purchase high-definition cameras” I agree.
^^ Right, because owners of professional sports teams (or TV networks) can’t afford the upgrade.
Why wasn’t tOSU game IN BROWNS STADIUM in HD? That was very aggravating.
“Why wasn’t tOSU game IN BROWNS STADIUM in HD?”
Most likely because it was a Toledo home game.
Scott-thanks for clearing the OSU/Toledo HD issue up….couldn’t figure out why I was getting such a crappy picture when I thought it was being broadcast in HD.
HD cameras aren’t expensive. I have a Flip that records in HD in my pocket! Silly TV networks. Just load up the stadium with Flips!
TRUE FANS WOULD WATCH ALL OF THEIR TEAM’S GAMES IN FULL 1080 HD, AS I DO.
The worst is when you fall asleep to a 10p Cavs game and wake up to that blue screen with the revolving FSNOhio HD logo and the awful music on loop…
TRUE FANS DONT FALL ASLEEP TO CAVS GAMES
Jeez Scott, you left the door wide open.
TRUE FANS WOULD DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN THE WORTHLESS 1080i AND THE GLORIOUS AND AWE-INSPIRING 1080p. GET WITH THE PROGRAM. YOU PROBABLY CONNECT TO YOUR CABLE BOX WITH COMPONENT CABLES INSTEAD OF HDMI!!!!!
I honestly don’t watch any channels that are not in the 700s (HD)… So this makes me happy as well. Next, our airport will get wi-fi and we’ll be right there with the rest of the world 10 years ago.
Is League Pass going to have HD games this year? The picture qualitylast year was atrocious, at least on Comcast in Washington DC.
FSN HD is crappy. So are their personalities (Fred McClown) and their cheesy graphics.
God forbid they ever make a remake of Back to the Future, I can see the scene now when Marty goes back to 1995 and is talking to his “10 year old uncle” at the dinner table, and young-uncle has no clue what HD, 1080i/p, or DVR is…
THE LYBIANS!
i can’t believe scott would do something like fall asleep to a 10pm cavs game that wouldn’t end until after midnight….
how irresponsible of him to have a job that he has to wake up for…
eli….how many programs do you see broadcat in 1080p? becuase when you watch sports next time go up to your dvr and see that it says 1080i
RUN FOR IT MARTY!
Hey kid, can I borrow your… HOVER BOARD?
@ scott – Cleveland’s airplane station doesn’t have WiFi, even a paid version — That is very saddening.
@ jcm – it’s comcastic!
I have DirecTv, unless im missing something, they don’t broadcast in 1080p yet. As far as I know, my 1080p tv is on vacation right now and I have to slum it down to 1080i.
“Hey kid, can I borrow your… HOVER BOARD?”
Roads!?
“how irresponsible of him to have a job that he has to wake up for…”
Yes sir! Gotsta make sure that WWW is up and ready every day at 9am!
No one broadcasts in 1080p by the way, only blueray. And the only way to broadcast standard definition in widescreen format is to either cut away the picture or stretch it, those bars on the side are far superior to either option.
@jcm – watched league pass on broadband on comcast in Alexandria last season. Granted, I was watching on a computer screen, but it was an HD quality picture. Great stuff.
Brian, my DVR only shows numbers over 9000.
Lets not start critiquing statements made using the sarcasim font.
@ Scott # 21 – nothing a bottle of Mumbai Sapphire can’t accomplish at 2:30 AM.
Also, WHERE WE’RE GOING WE DON’T NEED ROADS!
@ Eli – my DVR goes to eleven.
@Eli – dude no one is watching sports in 1080p. all tv channels that are “HD” are really only 720p or 1080i. The only way you get 1080p is through your playstation 3 or a bluray player. even for real fans…
YOU ARE WRONG. I GET MY SIGNAL STRAIGHT FROM THE COMPANY THROUGH SUPER FIBER. I PAY AN EXTRA $700 A MONTH SO I CAN WATCH BETTER QUALITY SPORTS THROUGH MY MONOCLE WHILE I SIP MY DIAMOND MARTINEES.
If you are new to comments on this site, things in written in caps are considered to be said in a sarcastic manner.
AND DON’T CALL ME DUDE. I’M NOT YOUR DUDE, BUDDY.
Super fiber makes me stay on the can all day.
And I’m not your buddy, pal.
I’M NOT YOUR BUDDY, PAL. AND I PAY $800 PER MONTH TO HAVE A BETTER PICTURE THAN YOU, SIPPING JOHNNIE WALKER BLUE, LOUNGING IN MY BERKLINE.
MY HDTV BROADCASTS IN 1080z AND MAKES THE ONE HANGING IN COWBOYS STADIUM LOOK LIKE A POSTAGE STAMP!!
“So, why don’t you make like a tree and get outta here?”
