“Perhaps this is most apparent in the team’s dominant performance on special teams. Dominant is no exaggeration here. It wasn’t just the field goal block, or yet another Josh Cribbs kick return across the 50-yard line. It was the coverage units that were most impressive on Saturday, forcing and recovering a fumble, and smothering the Titans returners on every kick. Two kickoff returns were stopped at or near the Tennessee 10-yard line. We suppose special teams is as fine a barometer as any with which to gauge a team’s overall discipline, toughness, and cohesiveness. The difference between this and last season couldn’t be more stark.” [Cleveland Frowns]

“Braylon Edwards’ leaping, one-handed catch just out of bounds in the end zone on the first drive of the third quarter shows once again why the Browns are willing to put up his plethora of drops at time. He is just so big, strong, fast and, especially, talented. He showed it minutes later when he caught the TD from Quinn on a quick slant. He got inside the defender and to the spot quickly, and this his size screened the defender away from the ball.” [Lane Adkins/The OBR – S/R]

A follow-up on the latest Rich Rod saga in Ann Arbor: “The school may be able to lessen a potential blow from the NCAA by conducting its own investigation and self-reporting any violations. Given how accustomed fans and alumni are to a program that is considered “squeaky-clean,” it stands to reason that the university will do all in its power to uncover what is really going on with the football program. Allegations of players being overworked and required to stay long past NCAA-mandated limits may not seem like a big deal, but any intentional and willing breaking of the NCAA rules will not be looked at kindly.” [Bruce Ciskie/NCAA FanHouse]

Braylon so far this preaseason –
1 TD
1 Dropped TD
1 Amazing out of bounds catch that had he come down 5 feet to the right would have been a TD
1 Michael Jackson tribute dance after a TD
I’m sure any team would be willing to “put up with that.”
Michigan better get used to the idea of being on continual NCAA probation.
Did anyone see that the Sporting News predicted the Browns to go 3-13? The Romeo-to-Mangini upgrade has to be worth at least 2 wins, right?
Wrong.
Nothing like some well-reasoned, in-depth analysis to start the week off right.
Said it before and will keep on saying it . . . the upgrade can’t be overstated here, and it’s becoming clearer with every pre-season game. The Browns will win at least 7 games this year. 8-8, or 9-7 wouldn’t suprise me either.

I’m expecting at least 7 wins for the Browns. I’m really impressed with the special tems play, especially Staurday night. I think the team, as a whole, is better than last year’s squad.
I bet RichRod is wishing he never left WVU, and WVU couldn’t be happier he’s gone.
I agree with Frowns on this one, the browns should win 7-9 games this year. Playoffs? I doubt it, but they shouldnt be drafting in the top 5 either.
@7 Dude we are not happy that Coach Rod is gone, I mean Everyone hated him for leaving and some people down here still do. But look at our program since he left. We went from one win away from the national championship game, to last year losing to the likes of ECU and Colorado. Bill Stewart got the job because “he” (Pat White) beat Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl, and he is a good ‘ol good boy from down on the farm. But he is not even in the same boat, or maybe even ocean as Rich Rod.
I mean you might not like him but he is one heck of a football coach. You Buckeye fans will see when he is whoopin’ the tar out of Tressel in a couple a years
@ Jeff – he’s only going to “whoop the tar out of Tressel” if he can manage to stay around long enough to right the ship.
Folks at UM don’t take lightly to these sort of scandals – it’s really nothing that would be seen on the radar of a lot of other programs, but they’ve run such a tight ship in recent years that it’s a big deal. He’s got this year and next to get to 9 wins. That’s my guess. I’d love to see it, and a spread option scares me from an OSU standpoint – but I don’t know if he’ll get to the point where he’s got his guys developed and totally in the system. Seems like there’s still some infighting going on with the changing of the tide.
