My thoughts exactly: “Seriously. Why couldn’t we have just had a nice and easy blowout victory today in Chicago? The Tribe actually jumps all over a White Sock pitcher (a rarity lately) and looks like they are ready to cruise at US Cellular, only to have to squeak out just its 34th win of this putrid season.” [kingdiesel/Bench Ben Francisco]

Anyone want to bet that the Browns have at least one rookie hold out? “Based on conversations with league sources and sources close to all four of the Browns’ first-day draft choices — center Alex Mack, wide receivers Brian Robiskie and Mohamed Massaquoi, and linebacker David Veikune — there have been no conversations with any of the picks in regards to a contract.” [John Taylor/OBR– subscription required. Good read.]

I believe players that hold out end up costing themselves money. That might only reference players who are in the league for several years, ignoring ones who only get that first contract.
The reasoning is by missing camp, they slow their initial development so when they’re up for a second contract they’re not as good, thus the second (presumably larger contract) is smaller.
I’m sure Robiskie and Massaquoi’s agents know that they pretty much have the Browns by the short and curlys when it comes to contract negotiations. WR depth is non-existent this year and as a fan it stinks that money is going to jeopardize their preseason, but you can’t fault them for using their position of strength to get more money.
If Terry Robiskie would like to continue working in the NFL, I suggest he shut his yap about how meaningless reporting dates are.
Poker is sportz?
The NBA has the best rookie salary structure that prevents hold outs (unless you’re a teenager from Europe who’s too good for Minnesota). Hopefully, someday the other two sports (especially the NFL) will adopt a similar plan.
@2 Clown baby……correct my friend. Rookies have one shot to maximize their signing bonus and that they will.
Since Brian Robo was picked at the TOP of the second round you can BET he’ll hold out for #1 monies. He was picked WAY too high and the Browns will have to overpay for it.
Sad sad sad…I hate rookie pay..too much damn drama

“Monies”? What the hell are “monies”? Do you mean “money”?
Cleaveland, I mean exactly what I said……monies. Thanks, though for the grammatical review.
Monies are those tiny horses. Midget ponies – monies.
Can we watch the language please?
Hey, I just don’t want to see this site turn into some kind of Shapiro corporate bs-fest. Speak English.
#12, dude it’s the internet. Don’t get so worked up. Monies is perfectly acceptable eTerminology, especially when referring to a big payday.
Grammar and spelling police are never appreciated. It’s petty, and throws threads off topic.
