More Kellen Winslow Staph Details Emerge
July 21, 2009Clip Show: Keeping an Eye on the Tribe’s AAA Squad – 7/21/09
July 21, 2009True story- I was working at a sports themed restaurant near the Richfield Coliseum during the Cavs run in the ’90s. We had nearly the entire team come in at various points each year, but a few players came in quite often. Larry Nance was a near regular. Jay Guidinger was a frequent guest (and by the way one of the nicest basketball players ever). Mark Price was my favorite Cavalier (probably still is) and he came in one day along with GM Wayne Embry and their wives. The waitress serving them had no idea who any of them were, but was told that “the guy over there is Mark Price, one of the Cavaliers.” She proceeded to call Wayne Embry Mr. Price all afternoon. The group thought it was hilarious and let her believe that Embry was in fact Mark Price. That was the day I shook Mark’s hand and looked him right in the eye. Yes, I discovered I was in fact the exact same height as Mark Price.
That story has really nothing to do with the next, but it is my Mark Price story, so I thought I’d share it. With that said, it seems that Price has gotten the itch to coach. We know that he has been a shooting coach with both the Grizzlies and the Hawks, but apparently the NBA’s best free throw shooter would like to do more. Like head coach.
Working as a shooting coach for the Hawks is a nice gig because Price lives in Atlanta and is able to spend quality time at home with his four kids. But he’s getting the itch to coach on a full-time basis. Blame DNA.
“I think with my dad being a coach, coaching has always been in the back of my mind,” Price said of his late father, Denny, a former college coach and NBA assistant. Mark has dabbled in high school and college coaching (he was an assistant at his alma mater, Georgia Tech). Now he wants to be a head coach. College? Pro? He’ll take things a step at a time and see what opportunities arise.
How would you feel about doing a little offensive coordinating for your former employer?
Truthfully we don’t know what kind of coach Price will be, but we can guess that he would put the work and dedication in it to be successful, just like he worked on his shot time and time again. I enjoyed the first Mark Price era in Cleveland. I’d love to see what he could do if given another opportunity. If nothing else, he might help a young Daniel Gibson become a more consistent shooter, and possibly mold him into a more mature PG.
It would also make this shirt more relevant.

This team needs more Mark Price. My favorite Cavalier of all-time.
Teams might not be willing to give him a shot after he went 0-5 coaching an Australian pro team and was mutinied by his own players.
when i saw the shirt i immediately went to buy it. then i saw the “price” tag. you’ve got to be kidding. that’s just stupid.
oh man! that’d be awesome. who better to be our offensive coordinator than the best PG we ever had? imagine the insight he could offer to further develop Mo and Delonte’s passing, Lebron’s leadership, and well, Boobie’s entire game.
Ha haaaaaaa, good story!
My girlfriend’s last name is Price. I have told her that the only reason I am with her is because of the slim possibility that she could be related to Mark Price.
My authentic Mark Price throwback jersey from the 92-93 season is my most prized sports-related possession, bar none.
I saw some dude rocking the #5 Team USA Price jersey not all that long ago. It looked like it had been through a war, but it was still pretty sweet…
Ahhhh, my eyes! The picture in the article that is linked in your story is horrible.
Loved the story & memory of the ‘un-named’ restaruant Rick… I had no idea Mark Price was that tall though. Guess it depends on who he stands beside. I do know that most coaches are towered over by the players. I don’t watch this sport too often, but would certainly get back into it if Mark were involved. Just saying….
@#6 One of our family members bears the name last name James, so when her daughter was graduating, she sent him an invitation to the party in case he wanted to stop in and see the James family, ha ha
