May 2, 2009Indians Attendance Issues??
May 2, 2009While We’re Waiting aims to be the round-up of the recent WFNY-esque information for your morning viewing. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email in the sidebar.
Tony Sipp remembers where he came from: “When Sipp returns to his Hurricane Katrina-devastated hometown each offseason, he doesn’t see the kids playing catball — or anything else, for that matter. Instead, he sees a town in which too many kids occupy their free time with drugs and shrug off schoolwork and sports. He sees a town of less than 18,000 in which whatever faint dreams a youngster might possess of escaping are too often crushed like that home-plate soda can.” [Anthony Castrovince / MLB.com]
After getting arrested two and a half months ago, Alex Boone has landed in the NFL: “Continuing to add potential depth to the roster, the San Francisco 49ers announced that they have signed 12 undrafted rookie free agents. That includes former Ohio State offensive tackle Alex Boone, who might have been drafted if not for a major off-field incident involving alcohol. Boone was arrested in February and charged with resisting arrest and obstruction of a law enforcement official and was Tasered before being taken into custody in Orange County, Calif., according to police reports.” [Aaron Wilson/ProFootballTalk.com]
More banter about the enigma that is Kevin Garnett: “KG wasn’t nearly as over the top last year as he’s being this year. I watched the NBA playoffs last year. KG didn’t yell “choke” at players, which beyond being unsportsmanlike (whatever) is just plain lame. He didn’t jut his chin out at every play his teammates made. He was still super-insane KG, but there was a certain inward focus to his stupid antics; he aimed them at his team, not the opponent.” [Eamonn Brennan/MouthpieceSports.com]
Terry Pluto recaps the Cleveland Indians honorable month of April: “Make it 8-14 with a pitching staff that leads the league in walks, a bullpen that has allowed the second most home runs in the AL. Make it 8-14 in a division where being around .500 could mean serious contention. And that’s not the worst of it.” [Cleveland Plain Dealer]
An Ohio State blog breaks down the offensive line for the Buckeyes this coming fall: “But reflecting on the fact that only two Buckeye offensive linemen have been drafted in the past three years — none higher than in the 6th round — and it’s time to speak up a little. After all, Jim Bollman is playing with our emotions. Since 2004, Ohio State has brought in some of the top line talent in the country coming out of high school, but it just hasn’t translated at Columbus.” [Jason/ElevenWarriors.com]
One of the best statistical gurus out there breaks down recent comments from Ron Artest concerning one of the most under-rated players in the NBA: “Ron Artest essentially called Brandon Roy the best offensive wing he has ever played against on Wednesday, putting him ahead of Kobe Bryant and LeBron James. There was clearly a tone of hyperbole and excessive praise on his current rival, but I believe it was intended to be sincere. Despite not having a single player on the roster other than Roy who can create his own shot off the dribble, no dominant offensive big man in the post and no superb point guard facilitator, Portland led the NBA in points scored per 100 possessions this season.” [Christopher Reina/RealGM.com]

+100 for the tattoo.
Is that the same tat as the grifter?
Cleveland leads the nation in grifters.
At least the guy found his way to a team… Hopefully he doesn’t cause any more trouble so we don’t have to see his mug shot anymore.
