Indians Lose Stunner to the Rays
May 16, 2009While We’re Waiting… David Huff, Cavs Goals, Brooklyn Nets, Kobe-LeBron Again
May 17, 2009The Indians lost last night in shocking fashion, but look to continue their recent winning ways tonight in Tampa Bay. Through three innings the game is scoreless but we all know that will change very shortly. The pitching match up is Carl Pavano and Matt Garza. Something tells me the odds do not favor the Tribe in that one…
Also on tap for this Saturday evening is the Preakness around 6 PM, the premiere of Kobe Doin’ Work on ESPN at 8 PM and most importantly, an Aeros double-header in Altoona starting at 5:30 PM. Enjoy the weekend, and the last free day before the NBA Playoffs trim down to the final four tomorrow, here at WFNY.
Coming tomorrow: articles on the Celtics/Magic series, the first weekly feature on the Aeros, and a recap of whatever the Indians do tonight. I’m excited for the two game 7’s tomorrow, so today is pretty much just down time getting pumped for that.

Pavano has faced the minimum through three.. Only 40 pitches thus far, so hopefully he can just be efficient and last till at least the seventh inning.
Nice to see LaPorta in there, but really, Dellucci over Garko (he of the respectable .271 avg.)? I may sound like a parrot, but, really Wedge?
Any idea when we’ll see Grady drop down in the order? Maybe tomorrow…?
And right on cue.. Pavano gives up the second home run of the year to BJ Upton. Zero home runs in his first 120 at bats this season, now two in his last four at bats against the Indians to break ties. Wonderful.
I just wish we could stick with the same lineup sometime. Remember the good ol days when we always knew who would be starting every day? Eh my guess is sometime next week. David Huff was officially announced as the starter for tomorrow, so Wedge might not want to go too crazy there…
I think I’ll skip Spike Lee’s valentine to Kobe Bryant. I’m sure he’ll try to paint Kobe as a saint–afterall, by Spike’s rules you can only be truly vile if you’re white.
@ Jacob. I remember as a kid playing pitch/hit with my brothers. I would go through the lineup with everybody’s stances (Lofton, Vizquel, down the line), knowing exactly what it is. Now I have to glance at the box score to see the 3/4+ changes every night. Oh well… at least we’re winning games by doing it… oh, wait, I forgot for a second.
Akron’s doubleheader is currently under delay for more rain in Altoona. Pavano only went five innings, while here comes Laffey from the pen.
Please let’s send Valbuena down. No need for the infield logjam and he doesn’t hit for anything.
Well I think its safe to say that Wedge won’t last thru the weekend. They have to make the change now while there is still time. After ripping the pitching staff Friday night, they do better Saturday, but now they can’t hit. Whatever he’s doing just isn’t working.
Martinez, Choo and Peralta go a combined 6-12 with both runs scored.
Everyone else was 0-20 with 7 strikeouts.
Rough afternoon/evening all around
Valbuena and LaPorta looked absolutely 100% overmatched, regardless of who the opposing pitcher is. LaPorta at least managed a long fly out, but Luis was embarrassingly bad at the plate once again. Pavano was unbelievable in the first two, but was clearly out of gas and probably should have been pulled sooner–you know, if we had a bullpen. Train got wood to ball a couple times, and Vic did his usual thing……Jhonny was even respectable, and looked good at third again. So many missed opportunities at the plate, and the team as a whole looked lifeless–not encouraging after the way last night ended. Grady has to move down because he is just embarrassing himself in the leadoff spot right now. Saw Kerry Wood on his way to the dugout at game’s end and said “Keep your head up”, and he gave a half-smile and wave–made me feel for the guy. Not sure what will get them out of this funk at this point.
Frustrating
