While We’re Waiting… Flip Saunders, All-Defensive Team, Minor Leagues and Nick Adenhart
April 12, 2009While We’re Waiting… Changing of Eastern Guard, Mitch Albom on LBJ and Malcolm’s Tour de NFL
April 13, 2009After 79 regular season games thus far, here is the final meaningful showdown before the playoffs begin next week. The Cavaliers enter the game with the best record in the NBA at 64-15, and currently hold a four game lead over the Boston Celtics after clinching the Eastern Conference title earlier this week.
The Cavaliers also have a 1.5 game lead on the LA Lakers, which means that two wins in our final three games would give us home-court advantage throughout the Playoffs. The Cavaliers are two wins away from tying the all-time mark for best home record in a season at 40-1, and all of these things are on the line this afternoon over at Quicken Loans Arena starting at 3:30 PM.
Celtics will be without Kevin Garnett until their final regular season game, and the home team has won the last 15 battles between these two teams dating back to March 2006 and including last year’s playoffs.

Cavs, Indians and Masters.. What more could you ask for on a Sunday afternoon eh?
Tiger just eagled #7 to go to 9 under. Ping!!!
Indians have men on first and second again in the bottom of the 6th with only one out. Up 5-4 already, think we might actually pull this one out Denny?
Sorry it was on #8. And Phil birdied. This is so awesome.
I don’t know JR, we might – then again, the bullpen still has to stop the Jays from hitting.
Tiger and Phil just both teed off into the woods. Phil has birdied 4 in a row, playing out of his mind.
Cavs up 14-6 early, Tribe bullpen is doing what they do. Tiger and Phil just made the turn. I’m on overload!!
LOUD NOISES! Jensen Lewis get two huge outs to end a rally in the top of the seventh for the Blue Jays. Still 5-4 for the Tribe!!
LeBron with a filthy block, Cavs now up 21-8.
Boobie might have his stroke back. Joe Smith just destroyed Paul Peeeace.
It amazes me that Phil had a 30 on the front-nine while Perry, Campbell, Furyk and others at the top are struggling to improve their score. This happens almost every year with Tiger and them…
Cavs up 31-9 at the end of the first. TK sighting with 4.8 left in the quarter.
The defense this quarter was beautiful.
Wow this is ridiculous. Looks like the home team streak will continue..
By the way, have you seen the MLB Gamecast from ESPN recently? They have a nifty little feature about the winning percentage based on recent history of the situation. Check it out.
Phil just hit into the water on 12. Ballsy shot that came short.
38-11 Cavs a few minutes into the second.
Remember how badly we couldn’t establish the interior against the Celtics last time. We are CRUSHING them in rebounding this time, and its fantastic. 27 point lead.
Some guy just had back to back eagles at the Masters on 15 and 16. Unreal.
Looks like Doc Rivers is putting up the white flag already. Rondo, Moore, House, Starbury and Big Baby.
And Boobie’s starting to stroke.
And Mikki Moore just screamed like a baby.
Kerry Wood strikes out the side…tribe win!
Windy is reporting on twitter that Wallace banged his knee and will not return. Hopefully it is just a precaution.
What a day of sports. Chad Campbell back on top over at the Masters, Indians get their first win of the season, and the Cavs are blowing out the Celtcs. Happy Easter everyone!
Wow Phil just hit his second at the 15th within 4 feet. Both Tiger and Phil looking to eagle.
Looks like it’s Kenny Perry’s to lose. The wheels fell off for tiger and phil there at the end.
Chad Campbell with a good push. This is gonna be a great finish…
Woods and Phil drop out at the last second. Cavs up by 35, unbelievable victory.
Wilbon making excuses for the Celtics at halftime. Said they really have nothing to play for in this game. I turned it to the Masters at that point, didn’t care to hear more worthless dribble.
Doh, got sidetracked being sucked into that awesomeness. Great message sent today.
3-WAY BONUS GOLF!!!
Why are we soiling the Cavs’ live blog with Indians updates? The horror.
I felt the same way, except about golf.
“…At the other end of the floor, the Celtics sat stoically while watching the Cavs clown around.
“I’m always going to remember that,” Ray Allen said. “If I beat a team, as happy as I may be in victory, I’m always going to stay humble and always remember that there’s another day. We play each other too much. Those are great motivational thoughts for me.”
Are you seriously telling me that a teammate of Kevin “INTESE” Garnett is getting on someone’s case about showing off? Give. Me. A. Break.
ray allen’s a b (keeping it family friendly!) and a sore loser… what article’s that from larry?
nevermind, found it
haha, this picture is hilarious: http://scores.espn.go.com/nba/photos?photoId=2203101&gameId=290412005
@ Mendy: It’s the AP’s recap. Check it out on ESPN.
Allen left his frustration overcome him. He cheap shots V and then goes into the locker room crying about the Cavs enjoying the game. What does he think they should do? Sit there and stare stoically into the cameras? Geez.
For real…
The defending champs.
The number 2 seed in the conference (3rd overall)
The likely opponent in the eastern conference finals.
They walk into your building, with a 2-1 series edge, and get completely stomped. I understand you’re not happy, but the home team is going to enjoy it.
Also, this makes me not fear boston at all (unless garnett is 100% healthy). They are so close to Detroit 2 years ago, where a slight speed bump sets them off and they can’t recuperate, blowing at least one winnable game.
AP Sports writer Tom Withers reported that the Cavs “mocked” the Celtics. Yeah, right. That’s obviously spin intended to get the Celtics’ dander up and spread the impression around the league that the Cavs deserve a smack-down. Let the Celtics get angry; whatever their feelings, they are going to have to beat the Cavs at the game of basketball, not at PR relations.
Well, between Ray Ray’s elbow to the nuts, Perkin’s incessant pushing and scowling, the fact that the Celtics signed two of the Cavs biggest nemesi: Moore and Starbury – and the fact that they went to hack-a-ben with 10 minutes to go in the first game at the Q and bill Walker was going up for alleyoops with 10 seconds to play in THIS blowout….I don’t think the Celtics have any more bulletin board material than the Cavs.
I think my brother Sam brought up a good point earlier in saying that Orlando is truly a bigger threat to us in the Eastern Conference. We had match-up problems with them, and although they are stuck in the 3 seed, I still fear the potential ECF series with them. I just hope the Celtics grit it out past them in the second round.
forget the dancing on the bench, the celtics have a monster block from wally world in the final minutes to linger in their conscience.
Great points, Tsunami.
But, but, but…. they’re Boston!
/ESPN
…And how about those terrible announcers? In the second quarter I hated how Van Gundy and whoever decided to argue with each other over who should be allowed to vote for MVP rather than do their jobs….you know, that one where they are supposed to call the game. Total garbage.
@CJG : that’s the way it is with national games. They lose focus 5 minutes in, and talk about whatever until the 4th. They lose focus and BS for awhile.
Carr may mumble and make stuff up, but at least he calls the game to the end. But in ESPN’s eyes, it’s Cleveland winning, so why talk about that?
The Cavs having fun on the bench is nothing new. We didn’t just start this against the Celtics. It’s been happening all year.
But I’m sure you’ll see this on 1st n 10 and Around the Horn, with ESPN playing up the fact that Boston has a bone to pick now.
i want boston in the ecf. it will be the symbolic dethroning of the champs and the cavs will reign supreme in the east for the next 10+ years.
@Lyon. You’re right on point. The Cavs have been having fun all year. Before, during, and after almost every game. Every ESPN/ABC/TNT announcer/production has made it a point to broadcast this fact. This wasn’t about Boston. It was about staying loose and cheering their teammates. And quite frankly, when you’ve blown the other team out of the arena in the first quarter you have to do something to keep your mind on the game.
Suck it beantown. Ray Allen’s cheap shot on Andy was despicable. That should be making bigger headlines than the Cavs celebrating the can of woop a$$ they were opening.
