If Browns Can’t Trade Down they Should Sit and Wait
March 23, 2009Lebron James Records Seventh NBA Player of the Week Award
March 24, 2009While We’re Waiting aims to be the round-up of the recent WFNY-esque information for your morning viewing. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email in the sidebar.
Man, these two teams just can’t stop trying out the same players: “A source has told Scout.com that West Virginia quarterback Pat White will be working out for the Cleveland Browns on Wednesday prior to making an official visit with the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday and Friday this week.” [Ed Thompson/Scout.com]

The Dallas Mavericks agree: “To add to the firestorm of complaints about ref’s in the NBA right now, the Pistons are pissed about Dwyane Wade getting all the calls in their loss to the Heat last night. Wade has been getting whistles in his favor ever since he first put on a Heat jersey. But Detroit thought that last night was particularly egregious.” [Andrew Katz/Dime Magazine]

Back from Dayton: “In case you are like me and you like going to bed before 1 in the a.m., our game against Siena was quite the thriller. From what I heard, even those of you who did chug a few Red Bulls just so you could stay up to see me do a celebratory cartwheel were interrupted by the Wisconsin Buzzcuts and their upset of Florida State. Yet another example of the NCAA conspiring to keep me down.” [Mark Titus/Club Trillion]

Will Shaq challenge LeBron to a Tweet-off? “[Suns coach Alvin] Gentry, when asked about O’Neal’s plans before the game, said he didn’t care. ‘As long as he gets 25 (points) and 11 (rebounds), he can do whatever he wants. He can Twitter, Facebook, MySpace,’ said Gentry, who also has a Twitter account set up by his daughter.” [AP via SLAM Online]

This Shaq-LBJ intro thing has been the most pointless “debate” I’ve seen in a long time. Does anyone actually care? Does ESPN really need to discuss it ad nauseam on ATH, PTI, SportsCenter….what’s next, an “Outside the Lines” special report? Forget the intrigue of the actual games and the races for playoff positioning: clearly the emphasis should be whose contrived pregame stage play is better.
Bring Pat White in if we can early day two. He’s a gamer. Imagine White and Cribbs on the field at the same time.
I really like the Suns’ embracing of tech and social media. Shaq’s Twitter is funny and they have some good giveaways and fan interaction brought together by the web. Wouldn’t be surprised if Gilbert doesn’t encourage some of this stuff soon.
B-bo: I’m just glad PTI sided with the Cavs/LeBron. I thought for sure they’d pick the more soundbite-friendly O’Neal.
Denny: If any Cleveland team embraces it, it would be the Cavs.
completely agree with the Dwayne Wade not getting any calls … I think he’s a remarkable player but after the 2006 finals I can’t get behind him if the refs just allow him to throw himself at the basket in order to get call after call after call
Scott: I know who wasn’t siding with the Cavs–Skip Bayless. His hatred for LeBron knows no bounds.
Denny: I wouldn’t mind seeing Pat in brown and orange. Of course, I’d like to know who the starting QB will be first.
Josh Cribbs, Pat White, and (drum roll please…) Mike Vick.
How nasty would those three be just lining up in the back field. All could pass, run, or do a ton of trick plays with each other. It would be unstoppable… for a game or so. O, and I was kidding, never want Vick on the browns.
This morning on WTAM, Andre Knott was reporting the signing of David Patten. He said the move was to bolster the receiving “corps”, but he pronounced it “corpse”. I thought it was a great Freudian slip.
Reason #1 the Browns should get Pat White:

Nice find Denny.
I like PW. I like him in the 3rd rd which currently we don’t have a pick in. But man think of all the ways we could spread out a defense with Cribbs and White on the field at one time.
Ah who am i kidding, PW would snap his ACL on the first day of camp.
Pat White is a faster Antwaan Randle-El. I would have no problem with him, especially if they develop him into that kind of player. He and Cribbs on the field in a package where either could take a pitch/reverse and throw (since JC is right-handed and PW is a lefty) would be tough to defend. White’s arm is the real deal, too. He may not be the best QB in the world, but he can sling it.
Assuming, that is, that there’s someone on the field that can actually CATCH a pass.
Well if White and Cribbs are on the field at the same time, the can just throw to each other.
Also I bet the dreamy BQ can catch a pass like a champ – he learned from Charlie Weis, he’s good at everything!!!
What about this one:

An amazing block followed by a great run. Nice. And taking pride in doing above and beyond.
I’ve stated before on here about being from WV, so I’ve had the joy of watching Pat White play for the last 4 years thanks to Grandpa’s obsession with WVU and his college football package on the dish. I’ve said since the season ended he will be the most under-rated prospect in the draft, and he’s proven that at the combine, and individual workouts. I hope the Browns can snag him. I wouldn’t care about my closet full of jerseys (Couch, Warren, K2, DA, and Edwards) if I could wear my brown & orange #5 Pat White.
Baltimore already has Troy Smith. Does it make sense for them to take Pat White as well? I’ll be glad to have Pat White over Ken Dorsey though.
