Shin-Soo Choo Injury Update
March 4, 2009While We’re Waiting… TE Signs, Cavs Clinch, Jackets Trade
March 5, 2009…..the man who seemingly can never stay healthy, pitcher Adam Miller has been shut down for another week to 10 days because of soreness in his right middle finger. It’s the same finger issue that caused him to lose a large part of the 2008 season. This probably puts the odds of “Atom” making the opening day roster in the long-shot range.
The bigger question for the fire-balling right-hander is can he catch a break? We’ve been awaiting his arrival in Cleveland for a few years now, and the various injuries he has suffered have derailed his fast track to the bigs. With Miller now down, Eric Wedge and Mark Shapiro will sift through the various options for that final spot in the pen.
Could it be Zach Jackson? The Attack’s best shot at a roster spot may be as a long man. What about Jon Meloan, the kid who came over with Carlos Santana in the Casey Blake deal? He is coming off a perfect inning of work against Texas two days ago and has the live, power arm, Wedge likes. Rich Rundles? If they decide to go with a second, match-up lefty, Rundles is their guy, but he has been lit up facing both righties and lefties so far this spring. Perhaps Juan Salas can snag the spot. The newly acquired former Tampa Bay Ray has a nasty slider if he can find it. What about the non-roster invitees? Don’t count out veteran Matt Herges or Greg Aquino who have had decent springs so far.
One man it won’t be is Eddie Mujica, who has been a gas can since he set foot on the mound in Goodyear a few weeks ago.

Unreal. Yet not surprising.
As frustrated as I am with his history of being injury prone, I feel bad for the kid. I’m sure he is not a fan of being labeled as injury prone either.
I wouldn’t mind Jackson being the long man. We may need one with our 3-5 starters being questionable.
Shouldn’t be flippin the bird so much.
Can we “shut down” any more annual talk about Adam Miller? Please?
I hope they give Meloan a real shot, he’s got a power arm. Mujica has been getting lit up since he first came on the scene several years ago-can anyone please tell me why they keep throwing him out there? As for Zach Jackson-do we need another soft tossing lefty who gets lit up by anyone with a right handed stick?
Let’s go with some live arms for a change if we’re going to give some young arms a shot.
Wait.. maybe this is just a smokescreen from Wedge to keep him off the WBC roster. Yeah, that must be it!
(sigh)
The Tin Man.
I hope they give Meloan a shot at it. He has a good arm and could be useful in the pen this season.
