Tribe News and Notes: Jake Westbrook Makes Progress, Zach Jackson Makes Final Cut
March 31, 2009The 5-Hole – Blue Jackets News and Notes: 3/31/09 – The “2007 Cleveland Browns Choke Job” Edition
March 31, 2009On Sunday, Daniel Gibson drained a three pointer, which prompted a Dallas time out, and a new Cleveland celebration. LeBron James, along with a couple other partners in crime, raced to mid-court to meet Daniel and build the imaginary camp fire. The ABC crew, and particularly Jeff Van Gundy thought it strange that the Cavs would get so excited about one three pointer. “A guy needs to make more than 1 to be on fire.” They must not have watched much of Daniel Gibson this season.
Gibson has had a tough year. Injuries have certainly hurt his production, but November wasn’t kind to Daniel. He shot .231 from long distance during that month, and dug himself in a shooting hole. He will have his worst career shooting percentage this season by a mile. And his cold shooting even earned him two DNP-coaches decisions in meaningful games recently. Gibson stood by and watched as the Cavs won close games against the Knicks and Orlando.
But something happened in the game immediately following those DNPs. Wally Szczerbiak was injured, and Gibson was called upon again to do what he does best. In that Portland game Daniel Gibson made a couple a key three-point shots, and helped spark the Cavs to victory. He has been hitting shots form “Deep in the Q” ever since.
Since those DNPs, Boobie is 8-for-16 from behind the line. (I’m not much of a math guy, but I think that’s .500.) In the last three games? Try 6-for-9. Daniel Gibson is hot again, and it could be at just the right time.
It’s been said on this site and other places as well- if the Cavaliers are hitting outside shots, they are the best team in the game. In their 13 losses, the Cavs shot 36% from deep. In their wins they shot 40%. Now, this isn’t as dramatic a difference as say Boston, who shoots only 31% in losses, but the Cavs have enough talent and depth to still win some of those games in which they don’t shoot particularly well. But in the playoffs we’ve seen that one big shot can make a difference.
One player off the bench can spark a team. We’ve seen Daniel do it before. Let’s hope that this recent hot streak is a sign of good things to come in the playoffs.

Wihle it’s true Gibson has been struggling this year, lately he has started to get his stroke back. If he can keep progressing int he right direction he can surely be the playoff x-factor being suggested.
as much as i cant stand AC – that shirt is MONEY
that shirt is money, if it’s all black and you’re live in upstate new york. Do the sleeves come in short, and extra short?
good to see Gibson back.. he said his toe finally feels normal, which makes sense.
i would love to relive the glory days of “shoot boobie shoot”.
love how people on detroitbadboys still hate his guts.
Jeff Van Gundy thought it strange that the Cavs would get so excited about one three pointer. “A guy needs to make more than 1 to be on fire.” That is the kind of ignorance we have to deal with in Cleveland. A real and credible analyst would know Gibson has been struggling all year. Then again Jeff “I can’t fight but I can wrap myself around a guy’s leg” Van Gundy isn’t exactly credible.
I wish you knew how happy that shirt makes me… they keep getting better and better and inspired us over at NoLogoNeeded.com. Thanks.
That cool little fire lighting was all about getting boobie some confidence. LeBron is smart and he knows how to pick guys up. I had to laugh when the other commentator said some little smart remark later how boobie was 3 for 5 from three or something like that and gundy immediatley changed subjects.
When Boobie scores at least 10 points, the Cavaliers average 105.26 points while allowing 87.63 points with a 18-1 record in 19 games. Diff = +17.63
When Boobie hits a three, the Cavaliers average 103.06 points while allowing 89.22 points with a 42-9 record in 51 games. Diff = +13.84
When Boobie does not hit a three, the Cavaliers average 99.27 points while allowing 89.50 points with a 18-4 record in 22 games. Diff = +9.77
