The 5-Hole – Blue Jackets News and Notes: 2/24/09
February 24, 2009Preview: Blue Jackets vs. Flames (Game 61)
February 24, 2009Not long ago, we discussed the fact that the Browns are not raising their prices for the upcoming football season. Citing the economic hardships (and likely realizing the on-field under performance), the 2009 football season will cost just as much as that of 2008 – hopefully, with less emotional letdown.
And while the Cavaliers’ product is considerably better than that of the Browns, coupled with an owner that will be paying a considerable amount of money in luxury tax next season, the team has decided that it too will not increase prices for the 2009-10 basketball season.
Also in line with what the Browns are doing, Dan Gilbert and company are altering payment plans as well by allowing ticket holders to extend their payment plans. Along with installments, the team is offering a handful of prizes for those that purchase ticket plans including but not limited to a ride on the Goodyear blimp.
Dan Gilbert had the following to say:
“With unprecedented economic challenges facing our country, and felt even more intensely in Northeast Ohio, we feel that freezing ticket prices is the right thing to do despite the Cavaliers historical success this season and the resulting demand for tickets that our on-court performance has created”
Knowing well that he could increase ticket prices thanks to two all-star players and one of the best winning percentages in the league (with only one loss thus far at home), this move speaks volumes for the type of owner that Gilbert is.
Now, if only this stood true for aftermarket playoff tickets…

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why we have the best run professional sports organization in the state of Ohio, and maybe this time zone.
Kudos, Mr. Gilbert.
Unfortunately for me, I still can’t afford to buy any ticket packages, but the gesture is welcomed. I’ll probably go to 1-2 more games this year, and a playoff game if I hit the ticket lottery.
Instead of trying to see what other NFL organizations do, maybe Randy Lerner could save himself some travel costs and just drive over to the Cleveland Clinic Courts in Independence to see how a first-class organization is run.
This action not withstanding, Dan Gilbert is one of the elite owners in pro sports today. He’s tortally developed a great, relentess winning culture. He isn’t satisfied with success and pushes for a better fan expierience. He’s accessible as well – I’ve e-mailed him and gotten good responses, or has an appropriate employee respond.
Plus, I love that vintage CAVS shirt he’s rocking in that photo. I’d like to get me one.
Pure class operation…….in every facet. An organization that knows and understands that treating their fans in every way is part and parcel of a successful process.
Cavs season ticket holders get showered every year with gifts, trinkets, events hosted by the CAVS featuring coaches and front office personnel (including food/beverages)……on and on and on. They’ve done it every year of the Dan Gilbert era……..with my cheap seats I’ve gotten things including an IPOD, LeBron Zoom shoes, Lebron Jerseys, Cavs Digital Photo frames…….on and on and on. Trust me…….I have cheap seats!
Classy operation……..classy ownership………classy management team. Dedicated to being top flight in every facet and winning championships……..that’s why Gilbert plays the game.
And these are tickets I happily pay.
Threadjack – Mikki Moore signs with the Celts…. end TJ.
Head and shoulders above the rest of the pro and and semi-pro ownership (Browns) in the area!
CLEVELAND SHOULD BE A CAVS TOWN as they are the ONLY ORGANAZATION COMMITED TO WINNING in this city!
#3-Bridge, yes-the CAVS are absolutely assessable in EVERY way. They even asign an account manager to the lowliest of cheap seat ticket holders (me) who respond immediately and literally take care of any request. I can assure you that doesn’t happen with the other teams…..specifically the Browns under Randy Lerner.
First-class organization, and one of the best owners in all of pro sports, hands-down. Kudos and continued success to Mr Gilbert and the Cavs.
Someone should make a post about how it’s annoying that every cavs story leads to someone talking about the Browns.
Oh wait…
I agree with all of kudos that previous the comments give out.
I just wanted to make a point about that photo above where Gilbert is rocking out the awesome shirt. It was clearly taken the night the Cavs beat the Pistons to win the Eastern Conference for the first time in team history. What is amazing is that of the people pictured who were members of the Cavs organization at the time, only Gilbert and Mike Brown remain. And look how they’re doing now.
Just speaks volumes about Gilbert, Ferry and co.
Wow….how can I be this happy with an owner?! Stand up guy, he is…
“Someone should make a post about how it’s annoying that every cavs story leads to someone talking about the Browns.”
To be fair, if the Browns didn’t invite such comparisons via their constant embarrassments and chronic ineptitude, then we wouldn’t have those posts. With the Cavs standing in such stark contrast as an exemplary, first class organization with elite ownership, I find it hard to fault fans for getting their dander up. I can only speak for myself here, but as someone who does not enjoy basketball but is a Browns fan, I can understand.
