January 27, 2009Mo Williams Carries Cavaliers Over Kings
January 28, 2009While We’re Waiting aims to be the round-up of the recent WFNY-esque information for your morning viewing. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email in the sidebar.
Whether or not the Browns improve much this off-season, it has to help us that Baltimore is losing a few of their key pieces. Right? “Baltimore has already lost its defensive coordinator Rex Ryan and linebacker coach Mike Pettine to the New York Jets. The Ravens also lost George Kokinis, who is the new general manager of the Cleveland Browns. And with so many pending free agents, the Ravens expect to lose a few key players as well. This is one of the few downsides to success in the NFL, and the Ravens will have to work their way through it.” [James Walker/ESPN]
In a story thats bound to pick up some steam, being that spring training is about a month away is the fact that Manny Ramirez is still without an employer. “The closer we get to spring training, the more likely it is that Manny Ramirez is going to sign with the Los Angeles Dodgers. It just makes sense. The Dodgers want him to stay in Los Angeles after the spark he brought to the team after coming over last summer, and they’re the only team who has made an offer close to what Manny and Scott Boras think Ramirez deserves.” [Tom Fornelli/FanHouse]
Adam Schefter on the Minnesota Vikings QB situation: “If you’re the Vikings, and you want to solidify the position, you have two primary options to me: trading for Anderson or signing Garcia. Garcia would be a short-term solution, Anderson a longer-term but pricier one. To get Anderson is going to cost at least a second-round pick, and maybe a first, and that’s a steep price. Then again, Minnesota traded its 1 last year and that worked out pretty well, didn’t it? [Adam Schefter via DBN]
The Steelers get creative with “Road to Sixburgh” t-shirts. I think we can all agree that these are nowhere near as cool as the Austin Carr Andy Warhol tee. It’s a beautiful thing. [Vince Grzegorek/First Cuts]
And Terry Pluto rings in with his vote for the final guard spots for the Eastern Conference All-Star team: “Some stat geeks love [Devin] Harris’ all-around game as he’s a 21.5 points per game scorer averaging 6.4 assists and a remarkable 9.1 free-throw attempts per game, making 83 percent. But the Nets are 20-25. They were 34-48 a year ago. Yes, Harris makes them a better team, but he has not made the same impact as [Jameer] Nelson and [Mo] Williams.” [Terry Pluto/Plain Dealer]

Anyone see Bill Simmons mag column? It always pisses me off how he acts like Manny was a RedSock first.
Simmons seems like a cool guy to have some beers with but if Manny ever came up I’d have to punch him 🙁
Wait, you mean that everyone to ever play in Boston didn’t start their careers there?
Josh Beckett, Kevin Garnett, Wes Welker… All Boston baby.
Bill Simmons does not seem like a cool guy.
Love Simmons but his writing has taken a dive since he started Podcasting…
Does that mean Trot Nixon is an Indian? I am going to cry myself to sleep now.
The Ravens have what the Browns don’t; that is an organizational system. Their organization is defined with executive leadership and a specific set philosophy and objectives-while the names may change the system doesn’t.
(same thing in Pittsburgh, done only better). Defensive coordinators have come and gone (Marvin Lewis, Mike Nolan) along with head coaches, coordinators, and coaches. The same can and will be said for front office personnel (Savage, Kokinis….). All we be replaced and the beat will go on-sound infrastructure is in place; change is just part of the process.
If things don’t work with team Mankok, it’s blown up yet again since they come in tandem (and as friends). There continues to be nothing in regards to infrastructure that can withstand bumps in the road. It’s also to be determined just what the Browns have with Kokinis in regards to what impact that will have on the Ravens. (training wheels bolted to Mangini’s wheels were part of his credentials).
…yawn…
Anderson for the Vikings first rounder? Yes please, thank you come again
LOL @ JackGonzo. Oh Yeah. We’ll take it. I don’t think it’s realistic after the season DA turned in this year, but I’d be happy with a 2nd rounder.
Do the Browns have any realistic shot at landing Suggs in the FA market? Does Kokinis, or even Jamal Lewis have any pull with their former team? I’m not too sure about having Ray Lewis here. I’d be afraid to go to the bar if he was a Brown.
If Mo dosen’t make the All Star Team, it’s the biggest travesty since the Cavs traded Ron Harper.
i doubt mo gets in… they had to have their votes in by 7pm last night just before he went off for his best game of the year. jemeer and devin are just sexier picks (as kornheiser would say).
simmons is great but he is a boston homer at heart. his podcasts are to die for but his writing has faded. no mention of mannys indian roots or the top notch quality of our famr system irked me. manny take a pay cut and come back to the tribe!
I guess if Harris and/or Nelson get the nod, I’m okay with it. No chance that Rondo deserves a crack over Mo, however…
I would buy anything Kokinis is selling if he can turn DA into a first rounder.
