“I’m not passing judgment now — Rice is in the Hall of Fame, and I’m happy for him. I’m just saying that’s kind of interesting. Well, wait, one other thought: To once again quote my friend Ken Rosenthal: He wrote that Rice deserves induction because he met “my first essential requirement for a Hall of Famer — 10-year dominance.” I appreciate that. I respect anyone who has thought through what the Hall of Fame means and then is consistent in that thinking. However, if 10-year of dominance is the theme then I would like to point out …
Rocky Colavito (1957-1966): Led the American League in games (1,533), homers (337), RBIs (1020), extra base hits (603), times on base (2,355), runs produced (1,545), outfield assists, … 2nd in Doubles (252 — to Kaline), runs (862 — to Mantle), walks (824 — to Mantle). Total Hall of Fame votes: 2 in 1974; 1 in 1975.” [Joe Posnanski]
3 Shades of Blue gives the Marc Gasol/Anderson Varejao head-to-head nod to Pau’s younger brother. This could be the match-up to watch tonight as I don’t think Andy is at that much of a disadvantage. Let’s see how Marc does when Andy pulls him away from the paint. [3 Shades of Blue]
“I can’t and won’t watch the AFC Championship game this weekend. I can’t and won’t watch the subsequent Super Bowl unless I get several independant confirmations that the NFC has a 70-point lead at halftime. Even then it might not be enough for me to turn on the game. Just the fact that one of those franchises is even going GRINDS ME TO NO END. The Steelers or the Ravens have a better than 50/50 shot of winning it all this season. The same season the Browns were treated to five primetime games. The same year that we as Browns fans were going to be rewarded for all our loyalty and patience.” [Jeff Belitinikoff/The OBR]
If you’re interested in the final AP voting for the NCAA football season, The PD’s Doug Lesmerises put Utah on the top of his final submission. [PollSpeak] Naturally, Dan Shanoff is not happy about this. [Dan Shanoff/dot com]
“Not that it’s any consolation for Clevelanders, but Lerner, who also owns English club team Aston Villa, doesn’t do interviews across the pond either. It’s time, I think, to put Lerner in the public eye, since he won’t do it himself. Until some entrepreneurial Browns fan makes an American football version, however, we’ll just have to support this English football version. [Vince Grzegorek/First Cuts]

Ugh, Dan Shanoff. Seriously guys? If there is a bigger Florida Gator homer on the planet, I’ve yet to see his work.
As far as the Ravens / Steelers go, I think ( read:hope) that these two teams will beat each other up enough to let the NFC take the title.
The AFC championship game would be a good striking point.
(Too much?)
(Answer: Yes.)
The only reason Shanoff is a Florida fan is because his wife went there. He’s a Northwestern grad. What a d****e.
(Edit: Now, now. No need for name-calling)
rini.. I am not in favor of a terrorist attack but I would rather have an Ace Ventura type of incident. Maybe one of the woman or men that jeff reed pissed off when he was having one of his drunk incidents, will kidnap steely Mcbeam and Big Ben and hold him ransome until after the game is over.
