LeBron James Going Bo Jackson?
January 12, 2009Coast To Coast
January 12, 2009Ohio State Point Guard and #4 overall pick Mike Conley Jr.? After his one and only season in Columbus as a member of “The Thad Five,” the cat-quick floor leader decided jumping right into the deep waters of the NBA was the right move for him. As we all know, the NBA loves to draft on potential, and Conley had just that. His outside shot needed work, but he had the quicks and the smarts for the next level.
Fast forward not even a season and a half and Conley has gone from starter (46 games in his rookie season), to the bench in Memphis, stuck behind fellow first round pick Kyle Lowry. He is averaging 7.5 ppg, 3.1 assists, and is shooting 33% from deep in 25 minutes a game. With so much potential and at such a young age, one would think the Grizzlies would want to let him spread his wings and grow with their young studs like O.J. Mayo and Rudy Gay. To quote Cosmo Kramer “not bloody likely.”
The Racine Journal-Times is reporting that Conley is on his way out of Memphis and headed to Milwaukee for 2008 lottery pick SF/PF Joe Alexander and PG Ramon Sessions. According to the report: “Both teams have virtually agreed on the conditions of the trade and only Bucks owner Herb Kohl had to give his stamp of approval.”
The Memphis Commercial Appeal’s Ronald Tillery said a deal involving Conley appears more imminent now than ever because his most ardent supporters within the organization no longer fight for his stay in Beale Street Blue.
The NBA is a fickle place. Six months ago, Alexander was hailed as one of the most NBA-ready rookies available in the draft and Conley was a future all-star type. Now they are set to switch places with their original teams already giving up on them.

I know what happened to Conley, he’s on my fantasy team!!! Oops not anymore!
I think Sessions has a solid future. Hopefully he gets to continue to play in Memphis. I liked him when the Cavs played the Bucks this year. He seems quick and able to get his own shot when need be.
Going to the Bucks is a good thing for him, he was going to always be battling with Lowry for playing time, but who is he going to battle in Milwaukee for pt? Luke Ridenour? Plus, the Bucks look like they could be a playoff team, and with Sessions gone he will get solid playing time off the bench and if he improves under Skiles than he should start by next season.
The NBA is a fickle place though, remember when Drew Gooden was traded like, 3 times in his first 2 years? The NBA drafts on potential but never wait long enough for players to show their potential
When the Cavs were in their point guard funk last season, I was all about bringing Conely to town. Of course, part of that was due to the tOSU connection, but mostly because I thought he was going to be a solid pass-first PG in this league. He may still get that chance as Luke Ridnour isn’t exactly Tiny Archibald, but to say he’s been disappointing is an understatement…
Well, Conley isn’t exactly Tiny Archibald either. I love the guy, but if I’m a Bucks fan, I’m not exactly rejoicing today.
If I couldn’t get Conley for the Cavs… then i think I really would want him to be traded to the Trailblazers just so there could be a reunion of Conley and Oden… Big Ten Network had the 2007 Big Ten Championship game against Wisconsin on Friday night before the Cavs – Boston game and I really forgot how much I loved Conley and Oden together after watching the game so much that I spent time with the ESPN Trade Machine making a lopsided trade for Conley, Oden, Roy and Amare Stoudemire trading only Wally, Snow, Pavs, and Terance Kinsley’s Contracts … oh how I can only dream haha
It is instances like this why i cant get into basketball. College or pro. The turnover is ridiculous and the only reason that they go to school in the first place is for exposure and because they have to sit out H.S. for a year. Then you get this talent ladened wonder get drafted where the kid needs to fine tune his skills where they cant because the coaching cant work with them enough while they keep up with there regular games.
Conely will either wake up one morning and everything just makes sense or he will become a teamate of Childs overseas.
This is why hockey is a great sport and if everyone would take there kids to a game you would be asking yourself “why didnt i come to a game years ago”.
I’ve been to 3 hockey games in my life…That’s 3 too many. Hockey is boring. Everytime I go I end up asking myself “Why in the world am I here?”
The Celtics gave up on Chauncey after half a season…
WHATEVER HAPPENED TO SCOONIE PENN?!?!?!?
Wait a second here…. The Grizzlies are receiving Sessions and Alexander for Conley? That trade makes no sense to me from the Bucks perspective. Dumping their starting point guard and first round draft pick for a former first rounder with no proven experience in the NBA… No way Bucks make the playoffs now
