January 29, 2009All-Star Reserves: Mo Williams Officially Snubbed
January 29, 2009While most of us will be pulling for Arizona because they just happen to be the team playing against Pittsburgh, Browns linebacker D’Qwell Jackson blogs about his reasons for his Cardinal fandom.
“As long as Cleveland Browns aren’t in it I really don’t care who wins, but I have been paying attention, watching NFL Network. […] Really I just want to see a good game, but I am an underdog guy and I’ll be rooting for guys. I’m an Edgerrin James fan. He was with the Colts for 6 or 7 years and hasn’t played in the Super Bowl yet. I don’t know him, but I’m rooting for him. I want to see him get a ring.”
Seems like a good enough reason to me. It’s right up there with “because they have the same intitials as Austin Carr,” and “because Adrian Wilson can jump high.” As long as it makes sense to you, roll with it.

Super Bowl – Rooting for Edge [D’Qwell Jackson]

So much for rivalry. I don’t care what Lebron’s cross-sport loyalties are, but if you’re a browns player, you better be rooting for Pittsburgh to get embarrassed by the Cardinals. A long shot, sure, but you best be rooting for Arizona. Could this be a reflection of how little these players care about the game they play? Or about the fans who shell out the collective wealth of northeast ohio to watch a terrible team every single season?
You know who is not doing their jobs right now? Every Browns players agent.
They should know that all they have to do is have their client come out to the media and say the following and be guaranteed local endorsement deals in Northern Ohio until they die:
“I am pulling for the Cardinals because the thought of the Steelers winning a championship makes me want to puke.”
In fact, bonus points if the continue with the following:
“Some complain that the Bidwell’s stole a championship from the Maroons. I say they did the world a favor taking it from that crass state of Pennsylvania.”
@#2: You’re exactly right. The city would love said player for all eternity w/ just one sentence hatng the Steelers.
But that’s the state of sports now. No rivalries exist in the pros. ie Bron n Sheed hugging b4 every game.
I’m pulling for the Cards for 2 reasons.
1.) They’re playing pitts-puke. Need I say more
2.) The Cards were the laughing stock of the NFL for the better part of my life (See Cleveland Browns 1999-present) now they’ve turned it all around and are playing for the NFL Championship. Maybe Mr. Lerner could take a lesson on how to turn a franchise around?
The Colts gave Edge a ring even though they won the season after he left so I guess “getting a ring” isn’t as much a concern for him as actually winning one.
@4:
One thing about that….if Az wins (which I obviously am rooting for) it makes the Cleveland Indians the team with the 2nd longest championship drought to the Chicacgo Cubs.
