While We’re Waiting…
December 26, 2008Romeo Crennel: Delusional?
December 26, 2008“What happened to then?
We passed then.
When?
Just now.
We’re at now, now.
Go back to then.
When?
Now.
Now? I can’t.
Why?
We missed it.
When?
Just now.”
When I think about the last 16 weeks, the oh-so-excellent quote above is the first thing that pops into my head. What I would give to be able to go back to the weeks where we actually had to choose between a quarterback coming off of a Pro Bowl campaign and the one that was to be the future of the franchise.
Since then, we have lost both quarterbacks to season-ending injuries. We have added another MAC quarterback to the arsenal in Bruce Gradkowski and he picked up right where former third quarterback Ken Dorsey left off – by throwing an interception. And if that doesn’t make you feel good, it’s not looking like this Sunday will be much better.
Dorsey has been placed on the Injured Reserve after sustaining a rib injury in addition to his battered pride. To fill his roster spot, the Browns signed quarterback Richard Bartel from the practice squad.
Yes, our team may be in the hands of a guy named Richard Bartel.
Bartel has plenty of credentials to be our quarterback. After all, he didplay football at Tarleton State! Of course, this was after he transferred there from Southern Methodist University. He was then signed by the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2007, but was released before the season began.
To give you that warm feeling of comfort, Bartel actually has more recorded statistics as a baseball player, pitching for the Gulf Coast Reds in 2001 and 2002. He finished with a record of 1-1 with and ERA of 2.98. Sign him up!
And as Mike pointed out when this news broke, his name is eerily similar to Rick Martel, the former WWE star. Somehow, Martel’s Tag Team title with Tito Santana and ultimate blinding of Jake “The Snake” Roberts leads me to think that he would in fact be more qualified to be our backup quarterback come Sunday.

I think Gradkowski has a great chance to succeed, and if he gets hurt, Bartel should be a decent fill-in. He has all the tools to be a top-level NFL quarterback. The Browns should not only cover this weekend, they may win. I hope to watch the game on the black&white TV here in the psych ward on Sunday.
well played
God I can’t wait until Monday morning when the misery that is the 2008 season is over with.
When do pitchers and catchers report again?
Hopefully during the game, Bartel will apply the Boston Crab to Polamalu to seal our victory.
is he related to that guy who dropped the foul ball at the Cubs game a few years back?
