November 6, 2008A New Beginning?
November 6, 2008Lost in the fact that LeBron James was absolutely dominant in last night’s 14-point win over Chicago was the fact that Zydrunas Ilgauskas knocked down his first three-point field goal in nearly four years. The sixth trey of his career, Ilgauskas can take pride in the fact that he drained more three-balls last night than James, Daniel Gibson, Sasha Pavlovic and Wally Szczerbiak combined.
Or, the above mentioned players should be ashamed that they made fewer threes than the seven-foot Lithuanian…either way.
Ilgauskas has been in double-figures in each of the five games this season. He has now rattled off back-to-back double-doubles, and has four straight games with two blocked shots. The best part is that the big man hasn’t had to play more than 31 minutes on any night thus far, hopefully preserving his health for the long haul.
Keep it up, big guy.

“Ilgauskas in the corner… three-ball…. got it!”
didn’t he have one against the Suns in November of 2005 to force OT?
I hope the three-pointer inspires him to re-grow his neck ferret of a beard.
God I loved that beard.
Z is unbelievable, have the cavs ever had a player as solid as he has been over the past 3 years?
Lisol – There is that LeBron guy, hes been ok so far.
Lisol – Lebron maybe?
In terms of the game, Wallace looked great again – very active on D and pulled in a lot of boards.
Z got plenty of looks, which was great.
Wally played fairly well (i.e. didn’t seem to get burned on D all the time).
LeBron was actually making free throws (15-16) – needs to keep that up.
Boobie had a terrible night from the floor, but he still stayed on the floor. Good to see.
Sasha only played in the cleanup time, maybe Mike Brown has settled on his backcourt rotation without him. Would like to see more minutes just because it seems a foregone conclusion that Wally won’t be around all season.
The team seemed to play well without LeBron in – really like the lineup that was out there with Mo Williams being the scorer.
Danny, that was Nov 10, 2004 against phoenix….
Just to be fair, Brad Daugherty made the All-Star game three consecutive years from 91-93.
…and is one hell of a NASCAR analyst
Danny – It was November 2004 and it was the start of a celebration (for me) that became known as the wingflapper.
Speaking of beards… Drew Gooden. Wow. “The Johnny”. Good times.
I am not 100% there, but I am close to saying I love this team more than any since LeBron joined. Delonte, Z, Mo’, even Wallace….I am liking what I see alot. I am waiting for that game against the Pistons on the 19th though. A win there and I will be a crazy hysterical fan, versus just a crazy fan now.
Its been very nice to see this team hold its own without Lebron in the lineup. Should really help come playoff time
I am concerned about the three point problem. Lots of time to figure it out, but if it continues into the playoffs all a team has to do is pressure the Cavs to shoot from the three. However…..that day of concern is a loooong way off.
Cavaliers offense is already different. I’m waiting for mo to get 100% healthy to see what he can really do. Where lebron catches the ball at is impossible to stop when everybody keeps moving. Our defense already impeccable. We gonna be real good this year. This the best team lebron had by far its not even close. We got a good point guard and d.west doing good at shooting guard.
Has anyone else noticed how flat Wally’s shot is? It’s a line drive to the rim for every shot. Get some arc on it, Wally.
That seemed to be the easiest 41 LeBron has ever scored. More please.
Agreed with the Chicago kid… I’m not sure how he’s such a good free throw shooter – the ball barely gets there…
First, Z is the most under rated center in the league. He is rapidly closing in on ten thousand points. ‘Z’e ‘z’is ‘z’a ‘Z’ucking ‘Z’east.
on the wally front, I don’t think Wally will be on this team by the end of the year. It isn’t just the contract. I get the impression that he is a step below everyone that is in the rotation. I love the guy, but it just isn’t there anymore
Is there the potential for the trade Wally, have him sit for 30-days and re-sign him gimmick?
Thats how he shoot tho. His form is so ugly i dunno how he makes it. He doesn’t even jump
