Is Phil Savage Losing It?
November 20, 2008The Articles that Weren’t
November 20, 2008League sources believe the three bidders to be Cleveland, San Antonio and Boston. The team offering the most money to McDyess is the Cavaliers, according to one league source. They could offer McDyess multiple years starting at more than $5 million this season.
Now personally, I couldn’t care less where McDyess ends up. As long as it isn’t back on Detroit. The whole “we-trade-you-then-you-get-released-and-re-signed” thing needs to stop. Like, yesterday.
However, if he does choose Cleveland over the Pistons, that would be pretty sweet. A bitter pill given the assumption that he would be back in about a month. If ‘Dyess does decide to become a Cav, it would likely mean the end of Jawad Williams, which is unfortunate. However, this would be huge for the second unit that is in dire need of some depth not named Lorenzen Wright.

Why not the end of Lorenzen Wright, who simply cannot play? Jawad has some talent………..and Wright’s contract is one year for one million. Cut him fast.
Right now I think we’re 1 serious injury from having an extremely shallow front court. Plus we’re looking at some addition by subtraction. I couldn’t stand the thought of this guy going back to Detroit or ( God forbid ) him going to Boston.
@Randy: Wright’s contract is guaranteed, Williams’s is not. So Jawad will be the one to go. But once Snow’s contract is taken off the books, Jawad would likely be back.
I’d love to land this guy… I think he would be the missing piece to put us over the hump by giving us more consistent scoring off the bench in the low post. Something Hickson may be able to do in time, but likely not this season. Plus, we keep him out of Detroit’s hands.
That said, I think he’s going back to Detroit. As the SI article says, the fact that he could sign with any other team, including the Cavs, who can offer more money than anyone, including Detroit, leads me to believe that he’s going back to Deeeetroit.
I can’t help but think about how good Dyess was when he came out of school… He’s right there with Grant Hill in the extremely talented but injuries put a cieling on his career. Perhaps Penny Hardaway as well…
He’s going back to Detroit for sure. This whole thing was rigged so Detroit could trade for AI without having to give up as much as they should have. It’s BS, and the NBA really needs to fix this loophole.
I will cry if Jawad gets cut, by far hes my favorite non-contributor on the Cavs. Way ahead of Sasha, Wright, and Snow.
He’s going back to the Bailout City. Which sucks, i’d much rather get a decent big man through FA then possibly risk wasting Wally’s expiring contract on a potential trade bust.

Signing him would be a no-brainer. Smart player, leader-type, does lots of dirty work around the hole. Since Anderson is gone, either late this season thru a trade or as a FA next year, McDyess can take his minutes while Hickson is growing up. Who else will be available who would better fill Andy’s spot?
