It appears that WFNY has been named “Best Sports Blog” in Cleveland Scene Magazine’s Best of Cleveland issue. On behalf of everyone at WFNY we want to thank our readers and the staff over at CleveScene for this honor. If you would like to see all of the winners you can read the issue magazine style here.
In case you are wondering what they had to say about our corner of the net, here are Vince’s comments-
Best Sports Blog- Waiting For Next Year
Running a sports blog is tougher than it sounds. Running a great sports blog is even harder, and in Cleveland, it’s a depressing endeavor. For most bloggers, there’s no pay, meaning every post is written around a full-time job, social life and family. Then there’s the matter of penning something meaningful – whether it’s funny or serious, or somewhere in between. The guys over at Waiting for Next Year succeed with style. The blog is updated frequently enough to constantly offer new content, and there’s a good mix of in depth analysis and lighter moments (recently, there was a lengthy look at the Browns misfortunes, accompanied by pictures of players with Lolcats-style captions). The bloggers provide coverage on the Tribe, Cavs, Browns, Ohio State and even the Blue Jackets, all in one convenient place. In addition to regular original content, WFNY also scours the web for the best/funniest Cleveland-related stories from around the country. We’re not sure which means more to the writers – being named Best Cleveland Sports Blog or getting name-checked by Terry Pluto in The Plain Dealer on more than one occasion. Either way, it’s a testament to the quality work they do in a competitive blog landscape that’s filled with more garbage than City View. – VG
Congrats also to Paul Cousineau of the DiaTribe who took the best Indians writer award despite being a ‘blogger’ and not from the mainstream media.
