You’ll never believe it, but there’s now more updates on Kellen Winslow!
It did not take long for the tight end’s camp to say that they’ll be appealing the recent suspension. The players association will reportedly be going to bat for Winslow – which comes as no surprise – who is set to lose out on over a quarter of a million dollars for Sunday’s game.
I would assume that the NFLPA believes that they have good case here. The down side to this is that the hearing is not slated to go down until Friday or Saturday, making it difficult for Winslow to be ready for Sunday’s game regardless of the outcome given that he is currently not practicing with the team.
The team, on the other hand, is status quo on the issue as Romeo Crennel says that he is focusing on the upcoming showdown with the Jaguars.
“My job and focus is to get ready for the Jacksonville game,” Crennel said. “The way things are playing out in the AFC, this game is huge. My concentration and focus needs to be on Jacksonville.”
If “focus” is an issue, perhaps this should have been considered prior to making such a bold move. Phil Savage did no one but himself a favor with this decision, and the rest lies in the hands of the NFLPA. I can only imagine what the feedback will be if this decision gets overturned as it would not exactly be a testament to decision making.

As opposed to most normal days, when Romeo’s “concentration and focus” are applied to destroying whatever buffet he happens to be attending.
The only thing Romeo aka Cookie Monster is ever focused on is where he can get some more cookies. As far as decisions that need to be made, RAC needs to be fired and DA’s sorry a** needs to be benched for Quinn. I am literally going insane out here in AZ, I am about to become a Cardinals fan.

Preach it, brother! Couldn’t have said it any better myself. Again, you want to talk about what’s detrimental to this organization……suspending Winslow is. I bet if you asked the players on the team what they wanted, I bet every single one of them would say they want K2 on the field this Sunday. Well, except for maybe Heiden 🙂
Anyway, I saw this one coming a mile away. There was no way on earth the NFLPA was going to let something this egregious fly without appealing it. I think they have a case, especially when you compare it to the severity of other offenses that have led to a 1-game suspension. You cannot find precedent anywhere of a player being suspended a game for simply disclosing the nature of his own injury.

He was ONLY late for a meeting????? What is wrong with this team? How is being late for a meeting better than just admitting what illness you had??? I’m losing it here. For real…..it’s like I stepped into some kind of bizarro universe. Nothing makes sense to me anymore, and in my opinion, this is even more proof that this is all about Savage’s ego and nothing else.

I feel like I’m in bizarro world evertime I see Duh, I mean DA, throw a pass. I’m like ” I am an average Joe, and I can see this guy is terrible.” Why can’t the o mighty gods of the Browns see it. Oh yeah I forgot, Savage would have to admit that he screwed up by signing Duh to an extension instead of spending that money at other positions of need.
You know things are bad when you are laughing out loud at the team you love and just don’t care anymore. Sadly, I have reached that point. That team that takes the field on Sunday is not the Browns. I refuse to believe that the Browns would ever be run this poorly

So, Winslow won’t play on Sunday, and barring some egregious misruling against him, will still get paid. So, tell me Phil, how else did you screw the Browns today?
Er. I can see the NFLPA getting involved if the league handed down the suspension, but given that they’re already going to be gameplanning without Winslow, what’s to stop the team from saying “Fine, you’re unsuspended, now go sit down while Steve Heiden plays all your snaps.”

Tapin, I think it’s about principles. It’s about not letting the Browns set a precedent whereby it’s ok to suspend a player without pay for basically nothing.

Winslow has been nothing short of a disappointment since he was drafted. I applaud Romeo for taking control of his team. I do not applaud him for his inability to field an offense…..

Watch football much? Winslow only put up the best season for a TE in Browns history last year…..a history that includes Hall of Famer Ozzie “traitor” Newsome. But thanks for the comment, though.
All we need now is a power hungry owner from the south making all of our personnel and coaching decisions, i mean we’ve already got the crazy costumed fans to match the raiders, why not match the whole poorly ran organization. Fight on K.W. I hated you as a Cane but can’t say i agree with the boys up top on what they are doing to you.

This topic makes me feel like a Rush Limbaugh fan calling Keith Olberman. Everyone is 1 billion percent on Winslow’s side. I see it split where multiple people are at fault here. I won’t get back into the fray, but I am guessing there are some other silent people out there who don’t really think K2 deserves the benefit of the doubt.
These are times when it’s good to know we have The Kool Aid man (Romeo) managing our team through these rocky times and will have a dynamite game-plan and focused team come someday…..

This whole story is disturbing. I have been asking myself, and my brother who is also a huge Cleveland sports fan, why I care so much about a team that doesn’t appear to care one bit for what we think? I am on Winslow’s side about this issue, but not on some other antics he does.
But the whole organization seems laughable right now. The coach is terrible, the starting QB is terrible, our 1st round backup QB still can’t get in the game, no one knows how to use a clock or timeouts. Why do I care?
