Where Do the Hard Feelings Come From?
September 4, 2008What To Watch For- Buckeyes vs Bobcats
September 5, 2008Ugh. Well, those of us that were a bit shocked at the release of Shantee Orr can now rejoice in the fact that he has returned; only at the expense of yet another injury.
Peek suffered an injury to his knee during Wednesday’s practice and has been diagnosed with a torn patella tendon; the same injury that was suffered by both of Gary Baxter’s knees.
While you never like to lose a player for the season, this will open up a ton of plays for rookie linebacker Alex Hall. But for a group that showed little in terms of rushing the passer during the four preseason games, you have to wonder just how big of a blow this will be. Given the recent (good) news on team captain Willie McGinest’s health, hopefully it will be minor.

Can’t say I’m shocked. I wasn’t counting on much from Peek this year since in his 16 months with the team he just can NOT stay healthy.
It seems like the Browns lead the league in this kind of injury. Can’t say it surprises me anymore. Browns free agent signings seem to have an inordinate amount of trouble staying (or in some cases, getting) on the field. Bentley, Baxter, Jurevicius, Peek, McGinnest – amazing. Let’s hope it doesn’t become one of those years where somebody important seems to go down every week.
News just in – he has already suffered his 5th bout with Staph during his short recovery and will require four more surgeries. Amputation being considered…. increase that life insurance!
Injuries don’t get me too bent out of shape, because it’s rare that you can prevent them (unless you’re playing your Heisman candidate in the third quarter of a meaningless game). We had incredible health last season, so we can’t be shocked about losing people now. But for the love of all that is good, can someone PLEASE explain to me what in the WORLD this team is doing to fill the pressing needs?! Are Phil Savage and Co. off on vacation this week?! How is it that Ricky Manning, Deltha O’Neal, AND Eugene Wilson have all become available, and yet NOT ONE of them has been brought into Cleveland?! ALL THREE are younger AND cheaper than Ty Freakin’ Law, and all three are better (to varying extents) than what we have now. We are just over 4 days away from opening the season against the Dallas Cowboys–a team which will feature T.O. (not sure if anyone’s heard, but he’s got some game), Jason Witten (easily a top 3 TE), and Patrick Crayton (speed to burn), not to mention the fact that Felix Jones will likely be split out to compensate for injuries to their WR corps (he looked better than his then-backfield mate Run DMC at several times during their Arkansas days)–and we appear to be either a) chasing a money-hungry geriatric to play CB, or b) content to go to war with a pair of CBs who made the Jets 4th string wideouts look like Rice and Irvin in their heydays. We are bringing a knife to a gun fight. How is it that nothing has been done to shore up the glaring weakness of this team?
Call this the crazed ramblings of a nervous fan, call it worry caused by watching the Tribe underachieve when faced with genuine expectations. But there is the very real chance this team gets its lunch handed to it by a major contender for all to see on Sunday, only to have to bounce back to face its rival in primetime next week. Mental toughness has not shown itself to be a strong point during the Romeo Crennel era thus far, and an 0-2 start certainly won’t help matters. I love the Browns, and I’d love to be positive and confident, but I haven’t seen any reason to be since training camp opened.
