The Browns Will Win If…
September 5, 2008NFL Open Thread: Week 1 – Browns/Cowboys
September 7, 2008Ohio State might be missing Beanie Wells today, but the lack of performance from the Ohio State offensive line makes it unlikely that even a completely healthy Wells would be able to do much to help. Ohio University put together a 72-yard drive in the first half to take the lead 7-3. On that drive, the Buckeyes were unable to wrap up tackles. After the touchdown, the Buckeyes have every reason to be disappointed in themselves if not ready to panic. Not only did Ohio State allow that long drive, they allowed it from the Bobcats’ backup QB, Boo Jackson. Jackson took over for injured starter Theo Scott who appeared to have some kind of shoulder injury.
The Buckeyes pulled within 7-6 on another field goal, but they might want to come out and play in the second half. I don’t know if they looked ahead to USC. I don’t know if they were on their heels assuming they could manhandle the Ohio Bobcats. What I do know is that Ohio State better find a way to handle their business on the offensive line of scrimmage. I know they better stop dropping passes (at least three that I can remember.) I know that the Buckeyes better do a better job of wrapping up the QB in the defensive backfield and stopping his long runs when he gets flushed out.
I can only imagine the article that Forde is going to write heading into next week against USC. Win or lose, it is going to be ugly.

Dropped passes and missed tackles? These fools playing like cowards. Why’d it take em a whole quarter to start throwing deep? They irritating me
well we’ve at least managed to regain the lead, but this is still really ugly

Well atleast they won. I wouldn’t have cared if they won by 1 point. Good thing they play usc next week so they can redeem themselves.
Boeckman needs to stop staring down one receiver and then slowly jogging laterally if he isn’t open. I’ve noticed that at both games so far, and he’s missed some wide open receivers because of it. I agree with Shaun, they really need to throw the ball downfield more, but not on situations like 3rd and 4, which they did several times today.
Yea Tim they didn’t throw the ball to robo and hartline enough. They are both 6’3 and they didn’t throw not one deep ball to them! Well they threw a few but todd was way off lol. I’m actually happy they didn’t blow em away so they’ll be extra focused next week. Lets go osu!
I know that the bucks have performed underwhemlingly in a lot of opening games but this is really worrisome.
The playcalling was anemic. After one series it was obvious Mo Wells couldn’t run for his life. In the third quarter Boom Herron started running really well – only to be replaced by Saine.
At least with Beanie in the fold there’s no question about who will get the carries.
I know they had takeaways but still, to have a TO margin of +4 and have the offense perform that poorly against OU’s defense, well that just worries me.
At least USC doesn’t run the spread…
I am not much of a Ohio State or USC fan, but being out here on the west coast, I don’t get the east coast bias everywhere I go and read. Let me tell you that after seeing this game, the buckeyes stand NO CHANCE against USC this Saturday. Hopefully this game was just a fluke, but I see USC with atleast a 2 touchdown difference win.
We have no chance? Why not? We looked forward to usc and wasn’t focused. We will SMOKE usc i promise!
Nobody knows it because I am new here to WFNY, but I have been saying since last year that the OSU wide receivers might be the most overrated in the country. They aren’t awful, but they are far from elite. Occasionally they show up big, but yesterday, they certainly let the team down. Most notably, they failed their QB by dropping passes and failing to find space in OU’s defense.
