A huge win for the Indians last night, but there’s bound to be some missed games after this one.

First off, this entire situation was started by Gary Sheffield. Was he upset that it didn’t hit him in his elbow armor? Alas, dude leaves with a bloody nose thanks to a mean headlock.
Secondly, how did it take Andy Marte longer to get to the pile than Grady Sizemore? Just curious.
But hey, Tribe wins. Choo goes yard…twice. Four RBI for the big man. Don’t even get me started on his .951 OPS for the season. Jamey Carroll comes in clutch in the bottom of the ninth, pinch-hitting for who else but Andy Marte. Great night for a game, all around. Great Action, great coaching (yep, I said it) and great come-from behind baseball.
And no. The picture above is not of the fracas. It’s of Carroll getting mobbed after his walk off hit, by those teammates still remaining on the field.
Jeremy Sowers and Justin Verlander take the hill tonight. If the same situation goes down, my money isn’t on Sowers…

I felt for the bat boy, who seemed to wonder if Sheffield would ever relinquish the bat. Isn’t that not allowed, to carry the bat all the way to first? Also, I wondered if, when Sheffield stepped off first, he could have been tagged out? Was the play dead, thus disallowing that? What a fine resolution of the situation that would have been.
I hadn’t thought of Carmona as the fighting sort, but Sheffield looked powerless in his confrontation with him. And Sheffield appeared clueless in his schoolboy rhetoric after the game. Lots of childish threats thrown this way and that. The man deserves a much longer and more consequential headlock, in my humble opinion.
I hope Sheffield and his pitiful batting average return to drag down the Tigers for another whole season. Anyone know his contract status with the Tigers?
Choo is a stud! I could not believe he hit that three-run homer, precisely because the possibility, which actually felt strangely like a probability, actually came to pass. I hope to see him play many more games next year, and let’s hope he can avoid military service one way or another. We need him far more than the South Korean army does!
Sheff threw five punches and landed one. Another 1 for 5 night with 4 K’s for that scrub.

Good to see some life from the team.
Further proof that Sheffield is a goon.
Is it me, or did that little scuffle remind everyone of this…

Couldn’t be more proud of Fausto. Shef is a punk, and he always has been. Now, Carmona sent him back to the clubhouse with a nice bloody nose. Justice was served in that one.

I was sitting there screaming at the TV that he should be out. If we watch the progression of the play, Fausto throws to first, ball gets thrown back, Fausto walks around the mound, Sheffield comes off first (and way out of the base path). I didn’t see time called by any of the umpires at any point, so unless I’m unfamiliar with a rule that says play is immediately dead when something like this happens, he most certainly should have been called out.
“Is it too late for a Rodger Dorn night?”
Hey, don’t get mad at Sheffield guys. It’s just a typical case of roid rage.
“I Don’t think Sheffield meant anything by it just drop the bat and move on” Whoops
Nolan Ryan would be proud Fausto
In Little League, if a player gets to first base while still holding a bat that’s an automatic out.
Fausto is now a bonafide badass. he knew that throwing to first was gonna piss off Sheffield – was Sheffield goin to steal 2nd? Unlikely. But he did it anyways and then he backed it up. I wish he wouldn’t punch with his pitching hand, but giving that moron a bloody nose was more than worth it. I wasn’t surprised to see Victor getting upset either, he is the ultimate team player and he will back up every single one of his teammates. Now, why Sheffield was so upset in the first place is unknown to me. Maybe he is just mad that he has a terrible batting average, is generally disliked by most in the Majors, and his career is just about over
Does Sheffield not realize he’s almost 40 years old? His comments after the game were stunningly childish. Is his plan to wait for Raffy Perez and Cabrera after school and beat them up? What a washed up loser.
CARMONA WASNT SO INNOCENT EITHER, SHEFF WASNT EVEN OFF THE FIRST BASE PLATE, HE WAS JUST PUSHING SHEFFS BUTTONS BY THROWING TO FIRST. HE’S THE ONE WHO REALLY GOT THE FIGHT STARTED, SHEFF JUST TOLD HIM TO THROW IT TO THE PLATE. EVERYBODY PICKS ON SHEFFIELD, BECAUSE HE DOESNT KISS THE *** OF MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL OFFICIALS. ALL THESE SO CALLED FANS TALK SO MUCH YANG ABOUT SHEFF IS THIS OR SHEFF IS THAT AND I BET 85 PERCENT OF THESE PEOPLE WOULD GET UPSET IF HIT BY A BALL, AND RUSH THE PITCHER IS TAUNTED BY A THROW AND THE OTHER 15 PERCENT WOULD BE JUST *****
Don’t blame Sheffield. You don’t throw a pickoff at a guy you just plunked. Use your head.
@ Tito
I bet more than 85% of people would get mad at getting hit by a pitch. Sheffield told him to throw to the plate, while walking towards the mound. He’s been a jackass his whole career, so he gets no benefit of the doubt from me.
No need to type in all caps, we all figured that one out when we were about 8 years old. Then we realized it’s dumb, grew up, and stopped doing so.
I see the incident as this: Fausto hit Sheffield unintentionally. Apparently he did so in April (April!) too, and Sheffield, being a narcissist, projects this to mean that he’s being targeted. Of course. The long walk to first with bat in hand is deliberately meant to intimidate Fausto. As far as Sheffield is concerned, Fausto started it (unreasonable), and as far as Fausto is concerned, Sheffield has just started it. The throw to first is definitely Fausto asserting himself back to Sheffield (not innocent, but not as bad/dramatic/immature as the slow walk to first with bat in hand). Sheffield tries to regain the psychological leverage over Fausto by telling him to throw it home, and if Fausto does so without saying anything back, he feels like he’s lost — so he yells back at him. Sheffield ups the ante by charging the mound, and Fausto responds with a headlock and landing some nice punches on Sheffield’s noggin. I’m not even sure who bloodied his nose. But I see Sheffield as more culpable and I’m glad he got the worst of it in the fight (in fact, I don’t think Fausto was as much as scratched). But I’d agree with both being issued standard suspensions for an altercation of this kind.
what remarks did sheffield make after the game?
I’m proud that Carmona threw to first, he was showing that he wasn’t intimidated by Sheffields antics. And I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks that THIS IS REALLY ANNOYING******
that wasn’t an “accidental” plunking, Carmona has some of the best control in the league and rarely ever hits batters – and that pitch was a good foot and a half off the plate.
DUDE CARMONA IS THE **** I HOPE HE BEATS UP SHEFFIELD AND EATS HIS CHILDREN LOL ROFL BBQ!!!!!!1one.
Wow- horrible announcers.

You’ve gotta respect Fausto, I mean Sheffield’s got retard strength.

Hey everyone, as the video shows @ 4:26, Fausto is innocent. I was the one who busted Shef in his nose and he started bleeding everywhere. Some would say it was an accident but I confess, it was not.
