You May Want To Sit For This One…
September 3, 2008LeBron James: More Than A Game
September 3, 2008As everyone watched and let out The Gasp Heard ‘Round the State, panic started to set in with one very important person that almost nobody was thinking about. “Who?” you ask. None other than Beanie Wells’ mom.
You think you were nervous, Buckeyes fans? Paulette Wells spent the weekend “like a person jumping out of an airplane without a parachute,” she said Tuesday night. “I was a nervous wreck.”
By the time she was admitting it, the mother of Ohio State running back Chris “Beanie” Wells was better. So was her son.
He walked down the hall at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center Tuesday afternoon walking a bit gingerly, but waving his protective boot over his head at reporters.
Don’t you all feel self-centered now? While we were sitting and worrying about a trip to California to play the newly crowned number one team in the nation, USC, Beanie’s mom was wondering if her son was ok. Thankfully, she and we can all stop worrying now. Beanie walked without the special boot yesterday, and Tressel is even leaving open the possibility that Wells might actually play some against Ohio University.
Let me be the first to say that this is a bad idea. I had no problem with Tressel playing Wells in the game against Youngstown State. I know some of you do have a problem with it, but I do not. Wells is an elite athlete and came into this season healthier than at any point last season. It would stand to reason that this game against Youngstown State should be used as a proper tuneup for the Ohio State offense. How can you get in sync with teammates and prepare for an elite team like USC if you don’t use your best players in the game?
That being said, now that there is an injury with Beanie, it isn’t worth the risk to put him out there on the field against an undermatched Ohio University team. It shouldn’t hurt Ohio State to play their second tuneup game of the year with Herron, Maurice Wells and Brandon Saine in the offensive backfield. This will ensure that Wells has the best possible health in week three given the foot injury.

How much of Paulette’s reactions had to do with the upcoming NFL draft? Just saying…
And I’m not sure how much I would like to see Wells in there. If he’s running pain free, I say why not give him a few carries. Then again, if he’s pain free, it was quite a recovery from something we all feared could be season-ending…
Yea ohio is gonna get smoked but i don’t think jimmy want the offense only playing 3 series with the team they gonna use to play usc. Usc dominated virginia and that scares me. Oh well we’ll see what jimmy does but i’ll bet he doesn’t play beans.
I fail to see all the hoopla over USC beating Virginia, virginia wasn’t ranked, its not like they went on the road and took down a tough opponent. But USC is the media darling (right up there with Notre Dame) so they jumped all over the chance to give USC the number one spot.
This outcome for Beanie doesn’t really surprise me, any foot injury that resulted in no crutches and a small boot can’t be that bad. I’d be surprised to see him start in the OU game, and as long as we blow them out as we should he probably won’t touch the field, they did list him as ‘doubtful’ to play yesterday.

first thing that crossed my mind was the first thing in the first comment.
I’d like a pie-chart of emotion for that – how much is “oh no my baby!” and how much is “oh no his future paychecks!”
As for playing OU – I’d give him a few carries here and there, nothing crazy. Just to test the foot out, see if it is cuttable, switchable and spinnable (probably not words) in game-time speed.
Well if you consider who we played and look at who georgia played then you’d understand. I mean yea virginia ain’t ohio state but they not youngstown state or georgia southern. The good thing is usc’s new guys haven’t played in a huge game yet and our veteran team has played in many
I don’t think that Beanie should play at all against OU, but there is a part of me that really wants him to play so that he can get that Heisman campaign going. The worst possible scenario, in my opinion, would be for Beanie to get hurt this week. If the injury were bad enough to put him out for the next two games, it would not be as bad as if he seemed like he would be healthy for the USC game but then re-injured it in the week before.
