Reyes, Perez and J Lewis Shut Down Jays
August 9, 2008Braylon Down, But Not Out…For Long
August 10, 2008The Cleveland Browns announced today that they have terminated the contract of Gary Baxter-
“Last year we were able to hold a roster spot open for Gary as he attempted to make a monumental comeback. After he underwent a knee scope last week, we are unfortunately not in a position to hold a roster spot this year. We are releasing Gary today in hopes he will be able to continue his rehab and get back into the NFL, either with another team, or possibly with the Browns. Gary has made tremendous strides thus far and we believe he can play professional football again in the future.”
We had speculated that Baxter was looking at the PUP list at best, and now it seems that the team needed to clear a space, and Baxter is the odd man out. Gary is one of the best stories in the league, and certainly we wish him the best.
If the team needs the roster spot, that can only mean one thing- they are close to signing someone. The OBR is reporting that the Browns are talking to player representatives, but they haven’t disclosed who those reps are, or which players they represent. You can bet the farm that they are defensive backs however. From my recap of the preseason game-
From the obvious department, the depth in the secondary is terrible. I look for the Browns to move sooner than originally planned to secure some depth. One key injury back there and the season quite literally could be in trouble. Instead of hoping we don’t have injuries the staff needs to put a plan in place for when we do.
Looks like my wish has been granted….

I am sad to see Baxter go but I am glad to see us taking another step in a positive direction. Thanks for the update.
\threadjack\ – Is Braylon hurt?
Rumor mill has Braylon wrestling with Stallworth and is out 4 to 6 weeks?
Anyone else hear this?
Mr. Yuk- After reading what you said I frantically began going through different Browns blogs trying to find out it there was any truth to it and found the story at Dawgs By Nature. (link is in the blogroll)
Apparently Braylon took off his shoes during a team run, he and Stallworth began to race each other and Donte accidentally stepped on the back of Edwards’ foot. Braylon had a nice gash and was taken away on the medical cart. He seems to be fine as he returned to practice.
