July 3, 2008Man, it sure does seem like a lot of baseball talk today. I wish we could be sitting here talking about the successes of our big league squad, but is it any consolation prize that we have some decent news about a minor leaguer?
If so, you may be pleased to know that Akron Aeros third baseman Wes Hodges has been invited to play in this year’s Futures Game, occurring July 13th, and is currently being considered for this year’s Olympic team.
Per the team’s media relations, the third baseman is hitting .307/.380/.451, leads the Eastern League in RBI and is second in total hits. A batting average with a “3” at the beginning isn’t something we’re used to seeing these days, so that’s a victory in and of itself.
If anything, Tribe fans can at least take some comfort in knowing that there is talent like Hodges in the minors in the event of continued failure by Andy Marte and the exodus of Casey Blake. WFNY, where Indians fans come for comfort. Here, have a pillow…
