The Return of Tractor?
July 10, 2008Brett Favre- Just Say No
July 11, 2008Indians 13 Rays 2 (Box)
The Indians had lost 10 straight games. Think about that for a second. They hadn’t won a baseball game since June 27th when they beat the Reds. They have suffered 3 consecutive sweeps. Tampa Bay has the best record in the league. No brainer right?
That’s why this is baseball I guess. The Indians pounded out extra base hits including homers from Dellucci, Francisco, Blake, and Choo. Shin-Soo also picked up his first triple since the ’06 season.
Rafael Perez dominated his 2 innings of work, as if to say “thanks for letting me warm up and not letting me throw a pitch last night Wedge.” (Alright, I may be imposing my will there.) Perez did strike out 2 hitters and only threw 15 pitches to get 6 outs. Starter Aarron Laffey pitched well enough, allowing a two-run homer to Jonny Gomes, while striking out 4 in his six innings of work. Juan Rincon had a shaky first appearance in a Tribe jersey, jamming the bases loaded in the ninth before striking out Ben Zobrist to end the Rays threat.
Ben Francisco looked sharp in all of his at bats, going 3-5 with 4 RBI. *WARNING- I’m about to say something positive about Andy Marte!* Marte made two nice plays at third, and didn’t look completely lost at the plate. There. The Tribe goes for 6th win in 22 games tomorrow!

*Dammit. I was really hoping we would break our record. Besides, I like the Rays, if your gonna win one, how about doing it against Boston or NY.
Well, we don’t play New York anymore this season for one thing…. and please be considerate of the language here, especially that one. Thanks.
this is 2 nights in a row that marte looked decent at the plate…maybe we’re on to something here..
ahhhh, nevermind, that’s just crazy talk
So far, the Tribe has won with double-digit scores all three times I’ve gone to a game this season. Perhaps everyone on this site should take up a collection to send me to the Jake for the rest of the year…
i’m up for it just cause u referred to the park as the jake…good man
The Jake? Whats that? Oh, you must mean The Prog!
what’s the name of this site again? ah yes, “waiting for next year…”
blurb on the bottom of the espn.com recap had the indians doing some minor league wheeling and dealing with the pirates.
while i want to keep saying “wait until next year”, id be lying if i said i didnt still believe in a miraculous 15 game winning streak. but what can i say? im an optimist at heart.
@Rick
1.I was merely making a point on how much it sucks we cant beat our rivals, but can beat up on a team much like the Tribe, whom many Tribe fans are now rooting for. Im a Rays fan for the rest of this year, while I love my Tribe, they’re now out of it.
2.Get the fook over your self, your a BLOG not exactly the NY Times. While I do enjoy reading your articles, not enough to let you try to censor me. Ill start watching my language, as soon as you learn the difference between ‘two’ ‘too’ and ‘to’ along with the number ‘four’ and the word ‘for.’
Alex: I don’t run this blog in any way, but I’ll just say that I appreciate the clean nature of this blog and its comments, as this is one thing (among many) that makes it stand out from so many other blogs. I could rattle off a list of things that make me a reader and participant with this blog and no other, but this would take me away from my point, which is that if those running the blog wish to foster a certain environment, then it’s only decent to honor their wishes, and I am one person who appreciates the environment here, and I’m willing to keep my language clean in order to do my part to sustain it. I’m not bullying here, by the way, but explaining a bit as to why I agree with Rick’s position, and asking politely that you reconsider yours.
Alex- There are a thousand blogs that will let you spout off at the mouth and be vulgar and offensive. I usually let things slide if it’s just one word, but as a minister that particular phrase is especially upsetting.
Also, don’t you think that there should be a site that is family friendly? Does everything on the internet have to be filled with vulgarity and pornography?
Thanks for not taking things too seriously. And pointing out grammar errors.
Wow…I would have been banned from here a long time ago if grammatical errors were cause for removal.
I like what the Rays are doing this year but am willing to bet they miss the playoffs completely
They do have last year’s Brewers written all over them. Braun/Longoria is only the tip of the iceberg…
It always seems to be that as soon as i stop watching the indians games because they become too painful to witness, they go on an offensive rampage and i can only read about it the next day.
rick, i also agree with your stance on the language issue. i think it’s great that i can read blogs and comments that are not filled with vulgarity. makes them seem that much more intelligent to me. i also agree with the use of that word…it’s just not needed. thanks again to all of you for a great site…
and alex, if you do wanna use that language, just find another blog to rant on. obviously you’re an english major that can’t deal with a few grammatical errors…
I agree on the language issue. It is enjoyable to read a site that is clean once in a while.
Alex, you are a stickler for grammar, but can’t come up with more intelligent language? That seems like an odd contrast…
I appreciate the comments guys…but let’s not beat Alex up. He’s welcome to comment here.

The Rays play something like 24 games against Boston and New York near the end of the season (may only be 12 games), but either way, I don’t think they will be able to handle the pressure
That’s a lot of games to maintain a lead…
I see the Rays in the playoffs, even if as the Wild Card. I just don’t see New York as a source of worry anymore, and the Rays seem to hold their own well enough against the Red Sox (have won all at home against them this year so far though have lost all away).
I actually see the Wild Card coming out of the central
September for the Rays looks as follows:
26 games (H/@)
Yanks: 6 games (3/3)
Sox: 6 games (3/3)
Orioles: 4 games (0/4)
Twinkies: 4 games (4/0)
Tigers: 4 games (0/4)
Jays: 3 games (0/3)
So that’s 19 games in their division–and 17 total road games. That’s a tough row to hoe for any team.
I have lived in the Tampa area for 4+ years now, and trips to Tropicana Field (terrible stadium, though most don’t compare well with the Jake) have been routine. I can say that this year’s Rays team is fun to watch (I liked it better when I knew the Tribe could come in and get an easy sweep), but I have a hard time seeing them being able to lock in toward the end with that kind of slate ahead of them. The Yanks aren’t coming through, either, so the wild card being from the Central seems about right to me–Twins or Tigers, with the White Sox taking it. And if you’d have told me before the season started that I’d be typing those words, I’d have laughed in your face. Bad times.
And that should say 27 games, not 26……once again, math dominates me
And just going back on the “rooting for the Rays, don’t care if they beat the Indians thing.” NO WAY. Though it might be stubborn, I root for the Indians and essentially hate every other team in the league. If the Rays need one win to get into the playoffs and are playing the Tribe at home — I hope we beat em’ 21-3.
@Todd: I’m with you, to a point. No team gets priority over the Tribe for me. But living here, I have no problem rooting for the Rays–as long as it isn’t against the Indians. I won’t buy any Rays gear (I wore a Tribe visor to a Rays-Cubs game a few weeks back, and got some curious looks), but I am ok with pulling for them against other teams. What I can’t condone are the people down here from other places (which is basically everyone) who give up hometown allegiances now just because the Rays are the “it” team. The “fashionable” (aka frontrunner) sports crowd just doesn’t sit well with me–and that includes the Cleveland fans who stopped following the Tribe after 1998 and the folks who didn’t own any Browns gear until midseason last year.
Ok, it shall no longer be done. But your original post seemed like you were talking down to me, which was what really upset me, not so much your stance on language.
